Kutztown Borough Police to host free community Bicycle Safety Rodeo

The Kutztown Borough Police Department will host its annual Bicycle Safety Rodeo on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Kutztown High School. This free community event is designed to help children and families build practical bicycle safety skills through hands-on instruction, interactive activities, and community partnerships.

The Bicycle Safety Rodeo is expected to welcome approximately 150 youth participants and their families for a day focused on safe cycling, injury prevention, and rider confidence.

Participants will rotate through activity stations covering bicycle safety inspections, proper helmet fitting, hand signals, traffic awareness, obstacle course riding, and real-world riding techniques aimed at helping young cyclists become safer and more capable riders.

Children are encouraged to bring their own bicycles and helmets, although free helmets will be available while supplies last.

In addition to serving the broader community, the event also provides a valuable opportunity for Scouts working toward Cycling Merit Badge requirements. Several portions of the program align with practical bicycle safety instruction and skills development required for the badge, making the event a useful educational experience for Scout participants while recognizing that separate mileage ride requirements must still be completed independently.

“This is not just about kids riding in circles in a parking lot,” said organizers. “The goal is to teach practical skills they will actually use when riding in their neighborhoods, on trails, and around traffic.”

The event is being supported through partnerships with community organizations dedicated to youth safety and education, including AAA, Highway Safety Network, Kutztown Lions Club, The Kutztown Optimist Club , local public safety agencies, healthcare partners, and volunteers.
