Reading Symphony Orchestra Receives CARES Act Loan to Pay Staff and Musicians

The Reading Symphony Orchestra announced that it has obtained a loan pursuant to the Paycheck Protection Program created by the CARES Act. This funding will enable the Orchestra to retain its staff and provide compensation to its musicians for the April 18th and May 2nd concerts that had to be canceled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We would like to take a moment to thank our audiences and supporters for their continued patronage, kindness, flexibility, and patience as we navigate through this unprecedented time in our community and country” said Executive Director, David Gross.

“In the meantime, the RSO is pleased to be able to maintain the salaries of our musicians and administrative staff through the end of the current season. These employees are vital to our mission to provide world class music in our community and region, and this investment will help us emerge from the pandemic well-positioned for the future.”

At a time when many businesses across the country are furloughing employees, the Reading Symphony Orchestra has committed to supporting the financial well-being of its musicians and arts administrators, and their families, through the end of the 2019-2020 Season.

“The Reading Symphony Orchestra is now in a period of canceled concerts, empty houses, and a season that has prematurely ended. We respectfully request that our patrons, ticket holders, and friends consider donating the cost of their unused ticket purchases back to the organization, but of course we will do whatever is necessary to serve our loyal patrons” said Board President, Michael Duff.

“Small gestures of kindness and understanding could have a profound effect on the future of the RSO. We gratefully thank our patrons, donors and sponsors for their consideration and look forward to offering great symphonic music when it is again safe for all of us to share world class music close to home.”
