Wyomissing Borough awarded $250,000 grant for Parklands Creek restoration

Wyomissing Borough has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to support the restoration of Parklands Creek and improve public access to one of the borough’s most frequently used natural areas.

The funding will support the restoration of approximately 1,600 feet of Parklands Creek, including streambank stabilization and improvements to riparian buffers, which help protect waterways and reduce erosion.

The project will also include new pedestrian boardwalks and trails, pedestrian bridges, ADA-accessible parking, landscaping, signage, and other site improvements aimed at enhancing recreational opportunities and accessibility.

“This grant maintains Wyomissing’s natural beauty, while also supporting our residents’ ability to interact with the creek. Projects like this one help keep our Borough beautiful,” said Wyomissing Borough Council President Kristen Gajewski.

The Wyomissing Parklands have a long history of serving the community. Before coming under borough ownership in the 1970s, much of the land surrounding Wyomissing Creek was used for agriculture.

Today, the Parklands feature wetlands, wooded areas, and an interconnected trail network that attracts walkers, runners, and cyclists. The area also provides opportunities for fishing, birdwatching, and picnicking.

“A strong parks and recreation system supports the residents’ quality of life. Those investments are crucial to a thriving community both economically and in life,” said Interim Borough Manager Eden Ratliff.

Borough officials said additional project details and construction timelines will be announced as planning progresses.

Residents can follow updates through the borough’s Facebook and Instagram pages or visit www.wyomissingboro.org.
