Fire Crews Battle 4 Alarm Brush Fire in South Heidelberg Township

At 11:15am Sunday, multiple fire departments were dispatched to a brush fire in South Heidelberg Township at the Robesonia Fish and Game Association, located on Texter Mountain Road.

Initial reports indicate the brush fire was located in a small area by the rifle range.

Upon arrival, fire crews quickly upgraded the brush fire to 4 alarms as it spread through a pile of tires near the edge of the woods.

A large plume of black smoke could be seen as far away as Kenhorst. The brush fire was placed under control within the hour. A backhoe was brought in to assist crews breakup the tire pile.

Information on how the fire started was not immediately available.

The following fire companies assisted in the brush fire: Township of Spring Fire Rescue Services, Pioneer Hose Company #1 Station 26 Of Robesonia, Womelsdorf Volunteer Fire Company, Bernville Community Fire Company, Newmanstown Volunteer Fire Company, Marion Township Fire Company, Western Berks Fire Department.
