Fire damages home in Longswamp Township; pets rescued, but one lost

Firefighters in Longswamp Township were dispatched to 1890 State Street on the evening of October 9, 2023, following a frantic report of a residential structure fire. At 6:09 PM, emergency responders raced to the scene, where they encountered a blaze rapidly engulfing the rear deck area, which eventually extending into the residence itself.

Due to the intensity of the fire, a second alarm was struck, calling in additional crews from the surrounding area. Firefighters managed to rescue two dogs from inside the burning structure. Tragically, one of the pets succumbed to their injuries. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to the occupants or first responders.

Preliminary estimates place the damage caused by the fire at $200,000, leaving a devastating impact on the affected property and its owners.

The investigation conducted by Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal unveiled the origin of the fire. It was determined that the blaze had its roots along an outside rear wall, specifically in the vicinity of an exterior deck.

Preliminary evidence suggests that the fire’s ignition was linked to electrical activity in the vicinity, near an outlet and various electrical items. It is important to note that based on current findings, no further criminal investigation is anticipated, signifying that the incident is believed to be an unfortunate accident.
