The third annual Good Medicine Indigenous Wellness Celebration is set to take place on Saturday, June 28, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Riverfront Park in Reading. Hosted by the Widoktadwen Center for Native Knowledge, the family-friendly event invites the public to explore Native American approaches to health and wellness through art, storytelling, food, and interactive activities.
The celebration will begin with a community cleanup of Riverfront Park from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by a variety of health-focused programs and cultural experiences throughout the day. Attendees can learn about the health impacts of the Schuylkill River, participate in Indigenous story times for children, and enjoy cooking demonstrations, art-making sessions, and social dances led by Spirit Wing.
Healthcare services will also be available on-site. Free blood pressure screenings will be offered, and Reading Hospital’s Mobile Mammography Coach will be present to provide convenient screening mammograms. The mobile unit is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and staffed by the same imaging professionals found at Reading Hospital Imaging Centers. Appointments take about 15 to 20 minutes, and community members are encouraged to schedule in advance by calling 1-833-34-TOWER. Those without insurance can contact Reading Hospital’s Patient Financial Counselors at 484-628-7400 for assistance.
Kayaking opportunities on the Schuylkill River will also be available, and free food samples will be provided. Guests are encouraged to bring picnic blankets or camping chairs and spend the day at the park. The event will be held rain or shine.
