Sister Georganne N. Molnar, a 43-year-old Catholic Nun of the Sister Servants of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, lost her life in a motor vehicle accident in Jefferson Township Saturday morning, November 18, according to the Berks County Coroner’s Office.
The accident, which took place in the 7700 block of Bernville Road Saturday morning around 9:30am, was initially described as two vehicles head-on. Two other victims sustained minor injuries in the collision. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, Sister Molnar was pronounced deceased at 11:02am by Deputy Coroner Terri Straka.
Route 183 was closed for several hours to facilitate the investigation conducted by the Pennsylvania State Police.
The manner of death has been officially ruled as an accident by the Coroner’s Office, and currently, no autopsy is planned.
Pennsylvania State Police provided the following account of the accident: Unit 1, a 2012 blue Subaru Impreza, was traveling southbound on SR-183 when it crossed the double yellow divider causing a head-on crash with Unit 2. Unit 1 sustained disabling damage as a result of the crash. Operator 1 was pronounced deceased on scene by the Berks County Coroner at 1102 hours. Operator 2 and Passenger 2 were transported to the Reading Hospital Emergency Room with possible injuries. Unit 2, a 2013 black Jeep Laredo, sustained disabling damage as a result of the crash. All people associated with the crash were wearing seatbelts. Frontal airbag deployment was observed on scene. No skid marks or gouge marks were observed. Unit 1’s speedometer was stuck at approximately 52 mph hour. Operator 2 related he was driving the posted speed limit of 45mph. Assisted on scene by Bernville Fire, Strausstown Fire, Keystone Fire, Northern Berks EMS, Western Berks EMS, and Spitler’s Towing. Troop A (Ebensburg) assisted with notification.
