Reading Hospital launches around-the-clock pharmacy service

New service at Reading Hospital gives the community access to prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, and first aid essentials whenever they are needed.

Beginning Tuesday, July 14, Reading Hospital’s 5th Avenue Pharmacy will become the only pharmacy in the region open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, giving residents around-the-clock access to medications, pharmacist support, curbside pickup and essential health products whenever they are needed.

Open to everyone, not just Reading Hospital and Tower Health patients, the pharmacy will offer continuous access to prescription medications, over-the-counter products, and basic first aid supplies. The expanded hours are designed to help patients start treatment sooner, reduce delays in care, and provide a convenient option when other pharmacies are closed, ensuring that patients can begin treatment immediately rather than waiting until the next business day for a pharmacy to open.

Whether someone is leaving an emergency department late at night, needs to begin a newly prescribed medication immediately, or is caring for a child with a fever after hours, the pharmacy will ensure access to medications and pharmacist support at any time of day.

“Access to medications should never depend on the time of day,” said Michael L. Stern, FACHE, President and CEO of Tower Health. “By opening the region’s only 24/7 pharmacy, we are making it easier for patients and families to get the medications and supplies they need without unnecessary delays. This service reflects our commitment to improving access to care and supporting the health of our community.”

In addition to prescription medications, the pharmacy offers a wide range of over-the-counter products, including pain relievers, cold and allergy medications, children’s medicines, cough and flu remedies, digestive health products, vitamins and supplements, thermometers, home health items, wound care supplies, and other first aid essentials.

“We know health needs do not follow a schedule,” Stern said. “Whether someone needs an antibiotic after an emergency visit, medication for a child with a late-night fever, or a refill that cannot wait until morning, our team is here to help. We are proud to provide a service that gives our community reliable access to a pharmacist and the medications they need, whenever they need them.”

For added convenience, 24/7 curbside prescription pickup will also be available at the 5th Avenue Pharmacy located on the Reading Hospital campus. For more information or to transfer a prescription, visit https://www.towerhealth.org/rx247.
