Hope Rescue Mission’s Patriot 5K Run to support homeless veterans

Hope Rescue Mission kicked off its annual Patriot 5K Run Saturday morning at Gring’s Mill Recreation Area in Reading. More than 200 participants of all ages gathered to take part in the scenic run, set against the backdrop of beautiful fall weather.

The event was held to honor and support homeless Veterans, with proceeds benefiting the. vital programs and services provided by Hope Rescue Mission for those who have served our country.

Race registration and timing were managed by Pretzel City Sports. The presentation of colors was done by Wilson Color Guard JROTC and the National Anthem was sung by Kayleigh Fratis. After the race, delicious pulled pork sandwiches were provided by Perry Helliger. Lunch was served to all Veterans, runners, and their families, with music and announcements provided by Sir Hamilton Newtown.

“Today, we stand as a community to honor the bravery and sacrifices of our Veterans, especially those who are homeless and in need of support. Events like the Patriot 5K are about more than just running; they’re about showing our Veterans that we’re here for them every day of the year, not just on Veterans Day,” said Rob Turchi, Chief Executive Officer of Hope Rescue Mission.
