Humane Pennsylvania waives adoption fees for senior pets in Berks this November

November is National Adopt A Senior Pet Month, a time dedicated to celebrating the companionship and charm of senior shelter pets. This November, Humane Pennsylvania is waiving adoption fees for senior pets over eight years old at both the Lancaster Adoption Center and the Freedom Center for Animal Life-Saving in Reading. For Berks County residents, this means an opportunity to bring home a loving, older pet at no cost from the local Reading shelter.

The fee waiver, available from November 1 to November 30, is made possible by generous, anonymous donors who have long supported Humane Pennsylvania’s mission. “We believe that every pet deserves a loving home, especially those who have given so much to us throughout their lives. By covering the adoption fees for senior pets this November, we hope to encourage others to open their hearts and homes to these deserving animals. These senior pets are waiting to share their love with you. Remember, Love is Ageless,” said the sponsors.

As part of the initiative, each senior pet adopted from Humane Pennsylvania comes with a comprehensive care package, including spaying or neutering, vaccinations (including rabies), de-worming, flea treatment, and microchipping. Adopters also receive a 1 lb. bag of Science Diet pet food to help ease the transition.

Adoption efforts will be centered at Humane Pennsylvania’s Freedom Center for Animal Life-Saving at 1801 N. 11th Street in Reading, making it convenient for Berks County residents to visit and meet potential new family members in person. The Freedom Center operates from 9 AM to 5 PM daily, with adoption hours between 10 AM and 4 PM.

In line with Humane Pennsylvania’s commitment to animal welfare, all adopters must complete a thorough screening process to ensure each pet finds the right forever home. Though approval is not guaranteed, those interested in adopting a senior pet are encouraged to visit during open hours or browse available senior pets online at HumanePA.org.
