Mayor Eddie Morán, in collaboration with State Representative Manny Guzman will host a Back 2 School Giveaway event on August 16, from 10 AM to 1 PM in the courtyard of 644 Penn Street. This initiative aims to support students and their families by providing essential school supplies for the upcoming academic year.
“I am proud to partner with State Representative Manny Guzman on this initiative,” said Mayor Morán. “By providing essential school supplies, we are not only supporting our students but also alleviating some of the financial burdens on their families. Education is a cornerstone of our community’s future, and we want every student to start the school year with confidence and the tools they need to succeed.”
During the event, Mayor Eddie Morán and State Representative Manny Guzman will distribute school supplies to students. Supplies will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Local barbers will be on-site to provide complimentary back-to-school haircuts for students and families can connect with local organizations offering state and local resources tailored to their needs.
“The back-to-school season can be stressful and expensive. This is why I am always thrilled to team up with Mayor Eddie Moran on this effort to help students and their parents kick off a great school year,” Guzman said.
“Our goal is to reach as many families as possible. We want to make sure that students in the City of Reading have the necessary supplies to start the year off right,” he added. “We will be offering free school supplies and fun activities, in addition, this will be also a great opportunity to connect families in need with state and local resources available to them. I encourage residents to join us to take advantage of a wide range of programs and giveaways all in one accessible location.”
The Reading Parking Authority will provide free parking at the South of Penn Garage from 9 AM to 2 PM.
