Sunday, Mayor Eddie Morán honored internationally acclaimed salsa artist Tito Nieves with a temporary dedication — “Tito Nieves Way” — on the 100 block of North 6th Street, next to the Santander Performing Arts Center.
The ceremony took place ahead of Nieves’ performance at the Santander Performing Arts Center as part of his 50 Años La Historia Tour, celebrating his extraordinary 50-year career in music. Known as the “Pavarotti of Salsa,” Nieves has captivated audiences around the world with his powerful voice and timeless hits that have defined generations of Latin music.
Mayor Morán, who initiated the recognition, praised Nieves for his impact on Latin culture and his enduring legacy. “It is an absolute honor to celebrate Tito Nieves — a true icon whose music has inspired joy and pride for so many, especially within our Puerto Rican and Latino communities,” said Mayor Eddie Morán. “Dedicating ‘Tito Nieves Way’ right here in Reading, on the same block where he performed, is a symbol of our city’s appreciation for his remarkable contributions to music and culture.”
During his concert that evening, Nieves took a moment on stage to express his gratitude to the Mayor and the City of Reading. “Outside of the theatre there’s a sign that says Tito Nieves Way,” said Nieves. “Thank you, Mayor Eddie Morán, for the many, many years of support.”
The dedication of “Tito Nieves Way” highlights Reading’s ongoing celebration of music, culture, and the contributions of Puerto Rican and Latino artists who inspire communities locally and around the world.
