Mayor Morán appoints Felix Freytiz III as new Chief of Staff

Mayor Morán announced Friday his new appointment to his office staff. Felix Freytiz III has been named Chief of Staff to the Mayor, effective August 22, 2022. Freytiz will replace Frank B. Denbowski, who has held that position since June 2020.

“The Mayor’s Chief of Staff is a crucial position that helps build and nurture relationships in the organization and the community. Felix’s expertise in public administration —municipal operations specifically —, labor relations, and strong community presence make him, without a doubt, a great asset to my team,” said Mayor Morán.

“I am confident in his skills and believe he will tremendously help us with the various challenges we are facing and others that may arise. His preparedness, ready-to-go attitude, and leadership qualities are precisely what this role requires.”

During Felix’s 14-year tenure in public entities, he has worked as President of AFSCME Union, Local 2763, Code Enforcement Officer within Reading’s Property Maintenance Division, and Parking Enforcement Supervisor of the Reading Parking Authority. In addition, he sits on Reading’s Diversity Board and Safety Committee.

“I want to thank Mayor Morán for this opportunity to serve as his Chief of Staff and be part of a team with the mission to see the City of Reading thrive and improve,” said Félix.

“As a lifelong resident of Reading, born and raised here, it’s truly an honor to serve in this capacity; I am also grateful to be back working for the City, and I look forward to continuing to make a difference in my community.”

“Conversely, any newcomer will have some big shoes to fill as Chief of Staff,” said Mayor Morán. “I am proud to have had Frank on my team and in that role. I knew his institutional knowledge and love for Reading would be instrumental for my administration. Frank deserved the opportunity to continue serving our great City after demonstrating such dedication to Reading and being overlooked by previous administrations for quite some time. I will forever be grateful for his hard work, dedication, and stepping up when we most needed it.”

Frank Denbowski announced his retirement and reduction in workload due to medical reasons and will remain a friend and collaborator of the Morán administration.

“After 20 years, I have made the difficult choice of retiring for medical reasons from full-time employment,” said Frank.

“It has been a true honor and the privilege of my life to serve this and previous administrations and the people of Reading. I would like to thank Mayor Eddie Morán for giving me the most recent professional opportunity to serve as interim Managing Director, which allowed me to utilize the skills I have developed over my 20 years of career. I look forward to continuing to serve the City of Reading and this city administration from different capacities.”
