Reading Science Center appoints first Executive Director

The Reading Science Center has appointed Lisa Meredith-Unrath as its first Executive Director. In her new role, Meredith-Unrath will direct policymaking, staffing and operations for Reading’s hands-on center for STEM education.

The Executive Director will work closely with the Reading Science Center’s Board of Directors to implement a progressive program for the Center’s educational activities, exhibitions and fundraising, as well as community outreach.

The center’s new director brings a strong background in leadership, education, development and project management.

Most recently, Meredith-Unrath was the Community Development Coordinator for The King’s Academy. She has served as Executive Director of CASA of Berks County and has more than 20 years of experience as an educator in the Philadelphia and Reading School Districts.

Meredith-Unrath also was an Educational Coordinator at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. She holds a Master’s Degree in Urban Leadership and Administration from Lehigh University’s College of Education and earned a Certificate in Project Management from the O’Pake Institute at Alvernia University, where she also earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education.

“We are very fortunate to have someone with Lisa’s capabilities and enthusiasm to take on this leadership role and fuel the future growth of the Reading Science Center,” said Jim Cinelli, Reading Science Center founder and board president.

Located at 645 Penn Street in downtown Reading, the Reading Science Center opened its doors to the public in October 2020 and features more than 30 STEM-themed hands-on exhibits in a vibrant 7,000 square foot space.

The center is open to visitors every Saturday and operates after-school and summer programs. The organization’s mission is to foster the love of science through exciting and experiential STEM education for the Greater Reading community, especially our youth. The Reading Science Center is a 501c3 nonprofit organization created by volunteers from many sectors in the Reading area coming together to provide young people with a creative and fun space to learn, explore and experiment.
