Safe Berks receives national grant to support sexual violence prevention programs

Reading-based nonprofit Safe Berks is among 12 organizations nationwide selected to receive a $50,000 grant through the 2026 RALIANCE Impact Grant program, part of a broader $600,000 initiative supporting efforts to prevent sexual violence and support survivors.

The funding was announced this week by RALIANCE, a national organization focused on creating safer and more equitable communities. The grants are supported through an ongoing partnership with the National Football League.

According to RALIANCE, this year’s funding doubles its 2025 grant commitment and is intended to help organizations continue year-round prevention and survivor support efforts beyond Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April.

Safe Berks will use the funding to support its “Parents in the Know” program, which is designed to help incarcerated adults recognize and prevent sexual misconduct while strengthening their ability to serve as trusted protectors for children and families.

The organization will also provide individual virtual counseling for incarcerated survivors of sexual violence. RALIANCE said the counseling program is intended to offer trauma-informed support that promotes healing, improves emotional regulation, and reduces risks associated with unresolved trauma.

“Sexual Assault Awareness Month helped shine a spotlight on these critical issues, but the reality is that survivors need support and communities need prevention resources 365 days a year,” said Yolanda Edrington, managing partner at RALIANCE, in the announcement.

RALIANCE said the selected organizations were chosen for their continued work supporting survivors, implementing prevention strategies, and addressing sexual violence in their communities. The 12 grant recipients are located across the United States and Puerto Rico.

Since its founding in 2016, RALIANCE said it has awarded nearly $4 million in grants to prevention programs and survivor support initiatives with backing from the NFL.
