Local nonprofit, The Camel Project, has announced three winners of its Community Champion Award for 2020, themed, We don’t need superheroes.
The Community Champion Award is presented annually by The Camel Project to individuals, community youth organizations, or schools to recognize, honor, and celebrate those who have impacted students in the community in new and innovative ways.
Last year recipient was Exeter Junior High School for the school-wide bullying program, Empathy Rising.
“We have ordinary people doing extraordinary things” said Executive Director Pamela Gockley.
Community Champion Award recipients are Dr. Yamil Sanchez, Chief Administrative Officer for the Reading School District; Michael Toledo, CEO of the Hispanic Center in Reading; and Chris Winters, President and CEO of the Olivet Boys and Girls Club of Reading and Berks County.
Due to COVID-19, the award ceremony has been postponed to October.
The Camel Project is a 501(c)(3) and non-profit dedicated to assisting communities, including schools, organizations, and individuals, to change the culture of violent and unacceptable behaviors that result in trauma and abuse.
