United Way’s Celebrate United event recognizes community partners and community impact

The United Way of Berks County recognized community partnerships and impact Thursday evening, April 20, at the DoubleTree in downtown Reading.

Approximately 300 guests attended the event which included dinner and an awards presentation to recognizing corporate and community partners supporting United Way’s mission and work.

The event highlighted the impact of the Read Alliance, a dual impact initiative benefitting first grade readers, along with teen leaders, in partnership with Reading School District.

The event also introduced 2023 Campaign Co-Chairs, John and Karen Arnold, business leaders and philanthropists. John serves on the board of Alvernia University and United Way of Berks County, and Karen is president of the Kindness Coalition, their family charitable foundation, and serves on the Foundation Board of Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center

United Way presented the Doran Award, United Way of Berks County’s highest honor for individual service to United Way and the community at large. The 2023 award recipient is Joanne Judge, business and community leader. Joanne is a Partner at The Stevens & Lee Companies, former United Way Board Chair, Trustee Emeriti at Alvernia University and has been recognized as one of Pennsylvania’s inaugural “Best 50 Women in Business”.
