The Yocum Institute for Arts Education has announced a one-night-only theatrical event that promises to transport audiences into the mysterious and haunting world of Edgar Allan Poe. On the evening of October 27, 2023, at 7 PM, the historic Schumo Theater will come alive with “Poe’s Unhappy Hour.”
Located at 3000 Penn Avenue, West Lawn, PA 19609, the Yocum Institute for Arts Education will host this immersive event, inviting attendees to step into the parlor of Poe’s Mother-In-Law, Mrs. Maria Clemm. The evening promises an hour of enchanting entertainment, camaraderie, and a unique opportunity to interact with the characters from Poe’s stories.
Audiences will be treated to parlor games and readings, with a special appearance by the remarkable Mr. Edgar Allan Poe himself, portrayed by Adam Danoff. Poe will captivate the audience with recitations of some of his most iconic works, including the spine-tingling poem “The Raven.” The event also holds the hope of a reconciliation between Mr. Poe and Mr. Rufus Wilmot Griswold, portrayed by Joel Gori, who has agreed to attend.
“Poe’s Unhappy Hour” promises to be a night of literary excellence, showcasing selections from Edgar Allan Poe’s famous short stories and poems. Audiences can expect to be enthralled by chilling tales such as “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Cask of Amontillado,” as well as poetic masterpieces like “The Conqueror Worm,” “Annabel Lee,” and, of course, “The Raven.”
The immersive experience will have the audience as esteemed guests, fully engaged in a performance of heightened storytelling, bringing Poe’s tales to life in a unique and unforgettable way.
The cast of “Poe’s Unhappy Hour” features a talented ensemble, with Andrea Hart portraying Mrs. Maria Clemm and Jeanette Fotis as Mrs. Virginia Clemm Poe.
