Trump to hold election eve rally in Reading; City issues traffic advisory for downtown

Former President Donald J. Trump is set to hold a rally at the Santander Arena in Reading on Monday, November 4, 2024, at 2:00 PM EST, a pivotal event for his campaign just one day before the national election. This rally marks Trump’s second appearance at the Santander Arena in less than a month, with his running mate, Senator JD Vance, also holding recent events in the area.

Doors at the Santander Arena, located at 700 Penn Street, will open at 10:00 AM, and organizers are encouraging early arrival due to anticipated large crowds. General admission tickets are available here.

Trump is expected to focus his remarks on what his campaign describes as “America-First” policies, contrasting them with the Biden-Harris administration’s stance on economic issues. A recent campaign release highlights inflation rates, high gas prices, and elevated mortgage costs as concerns for Pennsylvanian voters, positioning Trump as the candidate who can “Make America Affordable Again.”

In anticipation of the rally and expected high turnout, the City of Reading has issued a traffic advisory outlining street closures and potential delays in the downtown area. To support public safety and event security, the following streets will close to vehicular traffic beginning at 6:00 AM on Monday: Penn St. between the 600, 700, and 800 blocks. Cherry St. between the 600, 700, and 800 blocks. N 8th St. and S 8th St. S 6th St. between the 000 and 100 blocks.

Additional closures will affect other parts of Penn St., including the 200, 300, 400, and 500 blocks, in the hours leading up to the rally. These closures are expected to remain in place until the event concludes.

City officials recommend that travelers consider alternate routes, such as the Bingaman Street Bridge (using the Lancaster Ave Exit or Route 12), to avoid delays. Pedestrians and motorists are urged to follow posted detour routes and allow extra time for commuting.

Residents with questions about street closures or related impacts are encouraged to contact the City of Reading’s Citizens Service Center via email at csc@readingpa.gov, by phone at 877-727-3234, or through the Reading311 app for service updates.

With Election Day approaching, the Reading rally represents a last-minute opportunity for the Trump campaign to connect with local voters.
