Prospectus Berco rolls out the red carpet for awards banquet

On September 15th, Prospectus Berco hosted its Annual Awards Banquet at the DoubleTree in Reading, bringing together community members, businesses, and individuals to celebrate the impactful work supporting adults with disabilities in Berks County. The event recognized personal achievements of individuals enrolled in Prospectus Berco’s services and honored key community partners who have played a significant role in furthering the organization’s mission.

A highlight of the evening was the recognition of the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance (GRCA) as the Partner in Success. GRCA was honored for its collaborative effort in creating a Membership Spotlight last year, providing Prospectus Berco with an invaluable platform to share its story across social media and within the chamber’s membership network. Leah Fassnacht, GRCA’s Marketing Director, accepted the award, noting, “They teach you in journalism school that everyone has a story… The story of this organization and the great work you do in the community is one of those stories.”

The banquet also recognized several other community partners for their contributions:

Origlio Beverage, a business based in Reading, received the Partner in Business Award for providing employment opportunities to individuals served by Prospectus Berco, helping them achieve independence and maintain competitive employment.

Michael Billera-Smith was honored with the Outstanding Volunteer Award for his extensive service as a board member, treasurer, and chairman of the Golf Committee, among other roles that have significantly advanced the corporation’s mission.

The Give Us a Minute Band, known for its lively performances in Prospectus Berco’s Adult Training Program, received the inaugural Partners in Fun Award. The band has been a beloved presence for years, providing monthly performances that bring joy and excitement to participants.

In addition to celebrating its partners, Prospectus Berco honored the personal achievements of several individuals enrolled in its programs. From adapting to new living arrangements and exceeding health goals to making meaningful contributions through volunteerism, these individuals were recognized for their extraordinary efforts. Among those celebrated were Christine Cola, Anthony Davis, Glenn Geiger, and many others, who shared the spotlight during the red-carpet event.

Looking ahead, Prospectus Berco is set to embark on a new chapter with a rebranding initiative later this fall. The organization will adopt the simplified name ProBerco, while maintaining its legal name, Prospectus Associates, Inc. The rebrand reflects the organization’s commitment to its core values and its ongoing mission to support adults with disabilities in living dignified, fulfilling lives.

For over 40 years, Prospectus Berco has provided housing solutions, employment training, day services, and family support, remaining a vital resource in Berks County. With a renewed brand identity on the horizon, the organization is poised to continue its legacy of service, envisioning a future where all abilities are celebrated, and every individual has the freedom to live with dignity and grace.
