PSP Hamburg reports results of Memorial Day weekend DUI enforcement

The Pennsylvania State Police Hamburg station announced the results of increased DUI enforcement efforts conducted over the Memorial Day weekend in Berks County and surrounding areas.

According to a press release issued by Sgt. Cory S. Mengel, station commander for Troop L, Hamburg, troopers conducted increased DUI patrols, including a sobriety checkpoint, focused on drivers suspected of operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

State police said the enforcement initiative is part of an ongoing effort to reduce alcohol-related crashes and improve roadway safety across the Commonwealth.

During the enforcement period, troopers reported the following activity:

  • 38 motorists contacted
  • 2 DUI arrests involving alcohol and/or drugs
  • 15 traffic citations issued
  • 28 traffic warnings issued
  • 1 felony arrest

Troopers also reported no drug possession or paraphernalia arrests, no underage drinking arrests, and no warrants served during the operation.

State police said the increased patrols were conducted as part of the department’s continued commitment to combating impaired driving and promoting safer travel on Pennsylvania roadways.
