The City of Reading has announced that official trick-or-treat hours for Halloween will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 5 to 8 p.m., giving families an opportunity to celebrate throughout city neighborhoods.
Mayor Eddie Morán is encouraging residents who plan to distribute candy to turn on their porch lights during the designated hours to help trick-or-treaters identify participating homes. Motorists are also reminded to use extra caution as children and families will be walking through neighborhoods in costume.
To help ensure a safe Halloween, city officials are offering several safety reminders for families and drivers. Parents are encouraged to add reflective tape or stickers to costumes and candy bags, provide children with flashlights or glow sticks, and choose face paint instead of masks that could obstruct vision.
Costumes should fit properly to prevent trips and falls, while trick-or-treaters are reminded to stay on sidewalks, use designated crosswalks, and avoid walking in the streets. Drivers should reduce their speed and remain alert for children crossing roadways.
In addition to the traditional Halloween festivities, the city will host its annual Halloween on Penn celebration on Thursday, October 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. on the 600 block of Penn Street in downtown Reading.
The free community event will bring together Mayor Morán, local organizations, and families for an evening of Halloween activities. Residents are encouraged to attend in costume and take part in the festivities.
Halloween on Penn will take place two days before the city’s official trick-or-treat night, offering families an additional opportunity to celebrate the holiday.
