According to City Council President Donna Reed, the City Auditor operates independently of both the executive and legislative branches of city government, providing an important system of checks and balances in Reading’s governance.

Under Section 502 of the City of Reading Home Rule Charter, applicants must be registered voters and provide proof of continuous residency in Reading since May 17, 2022. Candidates must also hold a bachelor’s degree in business administration, municipal government, accounting, management or a related field.

Applicants must also be able to perform the responsibilities outlined in Section 503 of the Home Rule Charter, which are included in the application materials.

Mayor Eddie Morán encouraged eligible residents to consider applying for the position.

“The City Auditor plays an important role in our local government and in maintaining accountability to the residents we serve,” Morán said. “I encourage qualified Reading residents who are interested in serving their community and who meet the requirements to submit an application and be considered for this opportunity.”

Applications are available through the city and can also be obtained from the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 815 Washington St., during regular business hours. Residents may also request an application by emailing Council@ReadingPA.gov.

Completed applications can be submitted electronically to Council@ReadingPA.gov or delivered in person to the City Clerk’s Office.

The application deadline is Thursday, November 12, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Following the application deadline, City Council will review submissions and schedule interviews with qualified candidates.
