Reading Extending Closure of City Hall through February 1st

Mayor of Reading Eddie Morán is extending the closure of City Hall through February 1, 2021, in an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. This is the third extension of the closure since November.

“The number of infections continues to climb in Berks County and the City of Reading as the holiday season data is reported” said Mayor Moran in a statement Wednesday.

On Monday, the Pennsylvania Department of Health Level of Community Transmission table showed that Berks County continues at substantial risk of community spread for the week ending on 1/18/2021.

“Again, I do not make this decision lightly and have consulted with health professionals to, out of an abundance of caution, extend the closure of City Hall two more weeks until Monday, February 1.”

All City Hall employees, except those listed as essential, will continue to work from home.

“With the initial phases of vaccinations beginning and the availability to our first responders and emergency personnel along with another rollout anticipated shortly, we are hopeful that the rates of infections will begin to drop significantly, allowing us to resume regular schedules at City Hall.”
