Reading gears up for a sparkling New Year’s Eve fireworks celebration

The City of Reading, in collaboration with Berks Festival Inc., will host the 28th Annual New Year’s Eve Firework Celebration. The fireworks display will take place at 10:00 PM on December 31st on Mt. Penn, offering a family-friendly time for residents and visitors to ring in the New Year together.

Mayor Eddie Morán expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm for the event, stating, “Thanks to the leadership of Fire Chief Stoudt and Fire Marshal Searfoss, we can celebrate safely this year. After the Neversink Mountain fire in November, we weren’t sure if fireworks would be possible. However, with the burn ban lifted earlier this month, more precipitation, and careful deliberation from the fire office, it was deemed safe to move forward. I’m thrilled to see the New Year’s Eve Fireworks Celebration, a cherished tradition that unites our community. Let’s come together to reflect on the past year and look ahead to a bright future filled with new possibilities.”

William Koch, Sr., CPA, President of Berks Festival Inc., shared his excitement, adding, “Berks Festivals is honored to once again spearhead the organization of the First Night celebratory fireworks from Mt. Penn. As we turn our gaze upward, we welcome the New Year with hope and optimism for what lies ahead.”

The City reminds all residents and visitors that setting off unpermitted fireworks within 150 feet of structures is both illegal and hazardous. Please celebrate responsibly to ensure a safe and enjoyable New Year’s Eve for all.
