Mayor Eddie Morán, The City of Reading, and Keep Reading Beautiful (KRB), has announced the April prize winner of the inaugural “My Super Neighbor” competition.
This year-long initiative, aims to recognize outstanding home maintenance and promote community spirit, strengthening residents’ sense of belonging and appreciation.
Through a raffle-style drawing, Neal Kloiber, a resident of the 800 Block of Old Wyomissing Rd, has been recognized for their outstanding dedication to maintaining and enhancing their community space. Neal inspires his neighbors not only through his beautiful garden, but also by baking cookies for his neighbors and those in need, taking elderly neighbors to appointments, hosting movie nights in his backyard, snow blowing the entire block in the winter, and much more.
He even once baked 10,000 cookies during the COVID-19 pandemic for a local nursing home! His neighbors see him as their unofficial block captain and are inspired to pitch in for projects such as paving their back alley, cookouts, opening their pools for community use, and generally taking care of each other. As soon as someone moves into the neighborhood, they are welcomed with open arms and sweet treats. Neal and his neighbors are models for others to emulate!
Residents are encouraged to keep the spirit of the competition alive by maintaining their properties and public spaces, and by continuing to nominate their neighbors throughout the rest of 2024.
Monthly prize drawings will continue to be held until December 2024. The competition will culminate with the 2025 summer block party grand prize drawing which will be held in January 2025.
