Reading Police conducted a child passenger safety enforcement detail Sunday, Sept. 21, resulting in 34 citations and seven warnings.
Members of the Reading Police Department Traffic Unit, working with the Highway Safety Network, conducted the three-hour detail in the area of North Sixth and Elm streets. The enforcement effort focused on traffic violations, seat belt compliance and child safety restraint systems.
Police said officers encountered 43 violations during the detail, resulting in 34 citations and seven warnings.
The enforcement effort was part of the department’s ongoing traffic safety initiatives, with a particular focus on protecting children traveling throughout the city.
“Keeping our children safe is something we all have a responsibility to take seriously,” Reading Mayor Eddie Morán said. “A properly secured child can make all the difference in the event of a crash. I appreciate our Traffic Unit for being proactive in enforcing these laws and reminding drivers that something as simple as buckling up can save a life.”
Sgt. James Yeasted, supervisor of the Reading Police Department Traffic Unit, said the department’s efforts include both enforcement and education.

Reading Police encouraged motorists to follow Pennsylvania’s seat belt and child passenger safety laws and ensure children are properly secured in an appropriate restraint system before traveling.
