Reading Police temporarily relocating Desk Sergeant and Dispatch Operations to Berks County Courthouse

Update – 6/10/26: The City of Reading Police Department has completed its temporary relocation and has returned to normal police desk services and operations at City Hall: 815 Washington Street Reading, PA 19601.

Original post: The Reading Police Department has announced that due to ongoing renovations, Desk Sergeant and Dispatch Center operations will be temporarily relocated beginning Monday, May 18, 2026, at 7:00 a.m. to the Berks County Courthouse. Public entry will be available from the Sixth Street side of the courthouse.

This temporary relocation is expected to remain in effect until Friday, June 12, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., although services may return sooner if operations are completed ahead of schedule.

During this temporary transition:

  • The public service window phone and all City Hall door intercoms will continue to connect directly with police personnel at the courthouse.
  • In-person police services normally handled at City Hall will temporarily operate from the Berks County Courthouse.
  • Residents are encouraged to call for service whenever possible, as in-person services will be limited during the relocation period.
  • Self-service forms will be available at both the Berks County Courthouse and City Hall.

The City appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during this temporary transition.
