Reading recognizes Autism Awareness Month, illuminates city landmarks

The City of Reading announced Thursday its official proclamation recognizing April as Autism Awareness Month and marking World Autism Awareness Day on April 2, reaffirming the City’s commitment to building a more inclusive and supportive community for individuals with autism and their families.

As part of the observance, Reading City Hall will be illuminated in blue beginning April 2, 2026, symbolizing awareness and support for the autism community. The Penn Street Bridge and Pagoda will also be lit in blue this evening in recognition of World Autism Awareness Day.

Mayor Eddie Morán said, “This is something that’s very personal to me and my family. As a father, I know how important it is that every child is understood, supported, and given the opportunity to succeed. Autism Awareness Month and today, World Autism Awareness Day, remind us that our work as a community is to lead with compassion, patience, and inclusion. In Reading, we’re committed to making sure every family feels seen and supported.”

The City encourages residents to wear blue or light their home or business in blue throughout the month of April, take time to learn more, show support, and help create a more welcoming and inclusive Reading for all.
