Reading Roller Derby is joining forces with The Bridge of Hope Church in Womelsdorf for a heartwarming community initiative aimed at supporting local women in need. The collaboration involves a drive to collect gently used purses, which will be filled with feminine hygiene products and distributed to women through the church’s monthly community outreach program.
Feminine hygiene products, such as pads and tampons, are among the most in-demand items at shelters serving female residents. For the approximately 200,000 homeless women in America, these products are essential, as crucial to daily life as food, water, and shelter. The initiative spearheaded by Reading Roller Derby and The Bridge of Hope Church seeks to address this urgent need within the community.
Community members are invited to contribute to this cause by contacting one of Reading Roller Derby’s skaters or by bringing a bag to the upcoming game on Sunday, September 8th. As a token of appreciation, each person who donates a purse at the game will receive a $3 merchandise voucher.
The match, where Reading Roller Derby will take on State College Area Roller Derby, is set to take place at Skateaway-Shillington, located at 2275 Lancaster Pike, Reading, PA. Doors open at 6:30 pm, with the first whistle at 7:00 pm.
Reading Roller Derby, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is known for its commitment to empowering women through the sport of roller derby while making a positive impact in the community. The team comprises strong, motivated women who value teamwork, discipline, and the thrill of competition.
