The Reading School District has teamed up with the GIANT Company’s Feeding School Kids initiative, a partnership aimed at supporting meal programs within the district and across the region.
Now through March 31, customers at GIANT supermarkets can contribute to their local public school districts’ food programs by rounding up their purchases to the nearest dollar, buying reusable bags, or converting their Choice shopper points into donations.
“Ensuring our students have access to nutritious meals is pivotal for their growth and success,” said Dr. Jennifer Murray, RSD Superintendent. “This collaboration with the GIANT Company’s Feeding School Kids initiative empowers us and other school districts to foster a healthier, more equitable learning environment for all students.”
Funds generated by this initiative will aid in expanding food distribution efforts, establishing on-campus food pantries and gardens, providing supplementary weekend meals, and clearing outstanding student meal debts.
In its fourth year of the Feeding School Kids program, the GIANT Company has initiated this year’s campaign with a $100,000 donation. Since launching the program, the company has successfully raised $6,000,000 to address hunger among school children.
The participating GIANT store supporting the Reading School District is located at the Spring Towne Center (2641 Shillington Road in Reading).
