Now in its 32nd year, the Reading Hillside Playground has once again been transformed into a Christmas wonderland! Affectionately known as “Christmas on the Mountain,” this free-to-enter and free-to-park display boasts over 5 million led lights/pixels, inflatables, vintage and modern decorations and has again been enhanced for this year’s season.
Many new free family photo ops have been added this year, including a life-size Santa Sleigh and second 4K immersive light show that sets a completely new standard of entertainment. The renovations reset the bar for the many Berks County residents that consider “Christmas on the Mountain” an annual tradition.
“Every year since 2015 we have found a way to make this place even more magical all while maintaining it as a Free to Enter Display. Each Season Rich Carpenter from Axcess Industries helps me bring this vision to life, I am actually just surprised he still answers my calls with all the crazy ideas we cram into this park. I was unsure we were going to be able to top last year’s record season but what we have added for 2023 sure looks like we will!“ said Tim Profit of Savage 61 Chrysler Dodge Jeep and 1999 RHS Grad.
The Reading High School Marine Corps JROTC continues to be committed to the setup and ongoing operational manpower. The cadets and the volunteers have been setting up for the 2023 Christmas Season since September.
Reading’s Christmas on the Mountain exists today solely because of the support of local businesses. The Savage Auto Group and Axcess Industries have provided the majority of the startup and continuous funding.
Christmas on the Mountain is located on North 14th street in the city of Reading and is open daily until December 23, 2023, Sunday through Thursday, 5pm to 9pm, and Friday through Saturday, 5pm to 10pm. On-street parking is available, but does fill up quickly during peak hours.
