The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On February 26, 2025, Victor’s Cafe, located at 2012 Penn Ave, Reading, PA 19609, was inspected and found with the following violations: Fryer baskets (3) were observed to have food residue and were not clean to sight and touch.

On February 26, 2025, Healthy U Fitness, located at 1291 Penn Ave, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violations: Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed water leaking from the drain line for the handwash sink in the prep area and the hot water handle is not operating properly.

On February 26, 2025, Duck Donuts, located at 86 Commerce Dr, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violations: The handwash sink in the back area was blocked by dirty dishes and a mop head, and was not accessible at all times for employee use. Corrected. Observed chemicals/cleaners being stored on shelving above food and single-service items in the back storage area. Corrected.

On February 27, 2025, Stork Hotel, located at 301 S 8th St, Reading, PA 19602, was inspected and found with the following violations: Uncovered Food in the bain marie area stored open with no covering. Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the cooler, is not being date marked. Food preparation surfaces were not properly clean. Mops are not being hung to air dry.

On February 27, 2025, Square One Hamburg, located at 71 Industrial Dr, Hamburg, PA 19526, was inspected and found with the following violations: Time in lieu of temperature being used as a control for potentially hazardous foods, but hot foods, hamburgers and hot dogs were observed being held for more than 4 hours. Temperatures were not being monitored hourly. Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in cooler that is holding premade sandwiches. Non-food contact surface of spray nozzle at the three-compartment sink is not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Observed cases of soup container lids that are single-service, single-use articles stored in the dry storage area directly on the floor, and not 6 inches above the floor. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the dish area. Corrected. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the dish area. Corrected.

On February 27, 2025, Snowfox, located at 2020 N 13th St, Reading, PA 19604, was inspected and found with the following violations: Commercially processed ready to eat food, located in the cooler, and held more than 48 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened.

On February 27, 2025, Redner’s Warehouse Market #87, located at 1179 Ben Franklin Hwy, Douglassville, PA 19518, was inspected and found with the following violations: Mop sink has a hose attachment that is hanging below the flood rim of the sink and not an appropriate air gap. Corrected. Door located in the produce dry storage area of the food facility has a gap and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals. Corrected. Observed a buildup of trash in the corner of milk/tea walk-in cooler. Corrected.

On February 27, 2025, Pike Cafe, located at 930 Pike St, Reading, PA 19604, was inspected and found with the following violations: Ice scoop left inside of ice machine. Employee observed handling food without gloves. Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the freezer, is not being date marked.

On February 27, 2025, El Primo Bar, located at 200 N 9th St, Reading, PA 19601, was inspected and found with the following violations: Employees observed in the food prep area not wearing gloves. Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the COOLER, is not being date marked. Manuel ware washing sink being used for food preparation and thawing. Mops are not being hung to air dry.

On February 27, 2025, Amity Fire Company, located at 47 Pine Forge Rd, Douglassville, PA 19518, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed the grates on the condenser unit in the walk-in cooler and the conduit in the walk-in cooler to have a mold like build up.

On February 28, 2025, Ukrainian American Club, located at 542 S 7th St, Reading, PA 19602, was inspected and found with the following violations: Commercially processed ready to eat food, located in the freezer, and held more than 48 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Thermometers for ensuring proper temperatures of food are not available or readily accessible. Floor / wall / ceiling, in the men’s room & ladies room area, is made of water damage ceiling and chipped paint on door, and is not durable, smooth, non-porous, non-absorbent. Mops are not being hung to air dry.

On February 28, 2025, Stonersville Fire Company, located at 5580 Boyertown Pike, Birdsboro, PA 19508, was inspected and found with the following violations: Thermometer for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in the refrigeration unit in the room behind the bar. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.

On February 28, 2025, Pike Township Sportsmen’s Association, located at 860 Hill Church Rd, Oley, PA 19547, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility does not have available (and not expired) sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the bar and dishwasher. The slicer, a food contact surface, was observed to have dried food residue and some blue debris (most likely bristles from a nearby scrub brush) and was not clean to sight and touch. There is an accumulation of grease/dirt/old food debris on the floor under some of the kitchen equipment and on the floor in the back food preparation room (including under the floor mat). Working containers (spray bottles), used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.

On February 28, 2025, Papa John’s #3074, located at 828B Route 100, Bechtelsville, PA 19505, was inspected and found with the following violations: The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Several containers of food, that are refrigerated, ready to eat time temperature control for safety food in the cold hold pizza topping station area, was date-marked by the facility, but was beyond the 7 day use or sell by date and requires discarding. Can opener blade, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Non-food contact surfaces of spray nozzle at dish sink was not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view. The handwash sink in the dish area does not have single use towels, continuous towels, or air drying device. No sign or poster posted at the handwash sink in the employee restroom area to remind food employees to wash their hands.

On February 28, 2025, Oley Beer Mart, located at 673 Old State Rd, Oley, PA 19547, was inspected and found with the following violations: The business is listed out of compliance. Food facility does not have a sink for manual warewashing of the slushy machine equipment. The food facility does not have a handwash sink available.

On February 28, 2025, G&J Pizzeria & Bakery, located at 504 Main St, Blandon, PA 19510, was inspected and found with the following violations: Ambient air temperature measured at 49°F, in a reach-in refrigeration unit in the prep area, rather than 41°F or below as required. PIC instructed to relocate food TCS food items (pizza sauce, cheese) into refrigeration units with an ambient air temperature of 41°F or below, as required. Hot water handle is broken on the hand wash sink in the rear prep area. Mops are not being hung to air dry. Mop observed stored in mop bucket with soiled water in the utility closet.

On February 28, 2025, Cristina Restaurant, located at 450 S 7th St, Reading, PA 19602, was inspected and found with the following violations: Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the freezer, is not being date marked.

On February 28, 2025, Chatty’s, located at 3130 Pricetown Rd, Fleetwood, PA 19522, was inspected and found with the following violations: Cases of eggs held at 50 °F, in the rear prep area, rather than 45°F or below as required. Eggs observed stored in delivery boxes, PIC instructed to unload and place in refrigeration units. Ice machine interior observed with residue.

On February 28, 2025, Berks Lodge, located at 235 Walnut St, Reading, PA 19601, was inspected and found with the following violations: Ice scoop left in the ice machine. Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in cold unit equipment.

On March 1, 2025, Tobias Frogg, located at 2613 Hampden Blvd, Reading, PA 19604, was inspected and found with the following violations: Personal items stored on prep tables or adjacent to food/supplies. Designate area for storage of personal items. Multiple bulk food bins lids cracked or poorly fitting. Utensils observed with handles in all directions. Corrected on inspection.

On March 1, 2025, Jimbo’s Steaks & Hoagies, located at 3400 Plaza Drive, Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed personal items stored on food prep table. Store separately from customer food/supplies. Corrected on inspection.

On March 3, 2025, Nino’s Pizza & Pasta, located at 840 Park Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violations: The can opener, a food contact surface, was observed to have dried food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected.

On March 3, 2025, Alebrije Mexican Restaurant, located at 2224 State Hill Road, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violations: Open employee beverage container was observed in kitchen food preparation area. Corrected. Working container (spray bottle) in the bar area, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, was not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.

On March 4, 2025, Wawa Food Market #286, located at 3337 Penn Ave, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violations: Back of oven not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of debris.

On March 4, 2025, Wal-Mart Supercenter #3501, located at 100 Crossings Blvd, Elverson, PA 19520, was inspected and found with the following violations: Five severely dented canned items observed in the canned food aisles are and intended for use or sale in the food facility. Corrected. Observed one can of infant formula to be severely dented and the seal to be broken. Corrected. Observed an accumulation of dirt/dust and apparent mold on the condenser fan and walls of the outer meat cooler. Corrected.

On March 4, 2025, Spectators Bar & Grille, located at 45 Old Route 22, Kutztown, PA 19530, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food dispensing utensil in bar area ice bin observed stored in the food and not with handle above the top of the food. Marinara sauce temperature measured at 120°F in the hot-holding unit. Minimum temperature of 135°F is required for hot holding. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.

On March 4, 2025, New China King Restaurant, located at 168 W Main St, Kutztown, PA 19530, was inspected and found with the following violations: The business was listed as out of compliance. Cigarettes butts observed in the grease tray area on the cooking line, during the inspection. Observed food unprotected in bulk storage containers, which is subject to potential contamination. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food (chicken, eggrolls) prepared in the food facility, located in the reach-in refrigeration unit, is not being date marked. Food facility does not have a three-compartment sink for manual warewashing. Two-compartment sink observed for warewashing. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Observed exhaust hood and equipment on the cooking line encrusted with grease and soil accumulation. Observed no chemical sanitizer being used on equipment and utensils after washing and rinsing them, and prior to use. Dishes/utensils observed in the designated handwash sink in the prep area, indicating uses other than handwashing. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the prep area. PIC replenished paper towels during inspection.

On March 4, 2025, MOD Pizza, located at 2715 N Meridian Blvd, Reading, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violations: Working container (spray bottle) in the back area, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, was not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.

On March 4, 2025, Dunkin’ Donuts #345126, located at 5401 Perkiomen Ave, Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found with the following violations: Caulk around the edge of the mop sink is deteriorating, leaving a gap between the sink and the wall. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the front area. Corrected.

On March 4, 2025, Austin’s Restaurant, located at 1101 Snyder Rd, West Lawn, PA 19609, was inspected and found with the following violations: Raw beef was observed stored above raw seafood in the walk-in cooler. Food dispensing utensil in several containers of spices observed stored in the food and not with handle above the top of the food and the container. Corrected. Food contact surface of two fryer baskets were observed with broken wires. Interior of ice bin in the expo area was observed to have black organic residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Coving tile in prep area is observed missing and needs to be repaired. Wall in the dry storage area with the soda tower, has a hole, or is broken and in need of repair. Drain in the bar area is observed with excessive slime build up and is in need of cleaning.

On March 5, 2025, Redner’s Warehouse Market #42, located at 4870 Penn Ave, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violations: 12 cans of Enfamil A.R.added rice baby formula was observed on the retail sales floor and had expired 3/1/2025. Corrected, these were pulled off the shelf. Severely dented, distressed assorted canned items observed in clearance area and intended for use or sale in the food facility. Corrected. Fan guards in the meat cooler were observed with dust build-up and in need of cleaning. The handwash sink in the bakery area was blocked by cart and not accessible at all times for employee use. Corrected.

On March 5, 2025, Mangia! Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria, located at 322 E Wyomissing Ave, Mohnton, PA 19540, was inspected and found with the following violations: Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the walk-in cooler and Bain Maries, are not being date marked. Pre-cooked pasta, sliced cheeses, sauce held for more than 24 hours not date marked. Corrected.

On March 5, 2025, Grill Volunteer Fire Co. #1, located at 739 Mountain View Rd, Reading, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violations: Nozzle of soda dispenser, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – the handwash sink at the bar appears to have a clog. Water builds up in sink and drains slowly.

On March 5, 2025, Dunkin’ Donuts, located at 3818 Penn Ave, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violations: The quat concentration in the sanitizer bucket in the prep area was observed at 0 ppm. Monitor sanitizer to ensure it is at proper concentration. Corrected. Floor in the dry storage/back door area is made of tile and is cracked / roughened / and is not a smooth, easily cleanable surface. This needs to be repaired.

On March 5, 2025, Countryside Fries and More, located at Leesport Farmers Market, Leesport, PA 19533, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view. Working container (spray bottle) at front counter, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, was not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.

On March 5, 2025, China Moon Restaurant, located at 4888 Penn Ave, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violations: Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the walk-in cooler, is not being date marked. Shelving was observed lined with cardboard boxes. This surface is not smooth and easily cleanable. Cardboard needs to be removed.

On March 5, 2025, China III, located at 319 N Furnace St, Birdsboro, PA 19508, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed a build-up of grease and old food debris on the floor near the fryers and on the side of the adjacent refrigerator.
