Cookline extremely dirty due to large amount of grease build-up: Restaurant Inspections, June 26, 2025

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On June 18, 2025, Third and Spruce Drafthaus, located at 238 S 3rd Ave, West Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Thermometer for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in the small Continental refrigerator in the drink prep area of the kitchen. A food employee was observed cutting watermelon – a ready to eat food – with bare hands. Corrected. Cleaned and sanitized utensils (spoons) located in kitchen area, are stored with food contact surfaces exposed to hand contact when retrieved by food employees. Corrected.

On June 18, 2025, Taste of Crepes, located at 617 Penn Ave, West Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Thermometers for ensuring proper temperature of equipment are not available or readily accessible in the white and tan refrigerators in the basement. Scoop at the ice machine is broken/damaged and needs to be replaced. Door to the outside located in the kitchen area of the food facility is not self-closing and was open during this inspection. Corrected. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the 3-compartment sink (quaternary ammonia).

On June 18, 2025, Sweet Ride Ice Cream Parlor & Soda Fountain, located at 542 Penn Ave, West Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Prepackaged food items not labeled properly with the name of product and ingredient statement. Corrected by adding sign to freezer door.

On June 18, 2025, Julie’s Restaurant, located at 4850 Penn Ave, Sinking Spring, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Wall in the drive thru area behind the ice cream machine was observed with excessive dried food debris, and in need of cleaning. Corrected. Lids for caramel, chocolate, and strawberry syrups were observed to have encrusted food residue and were not clean to sight and touch. Corrected. Non-food contact surfaces of the reach-in cooler in drive thru and the reach-in freezer in the fryer area not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Corrected. Spray bottle used for storing cleaner taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.

On June 18, 2025, Healthy Life, located at 901 Penn St, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: No paper towels in the bathroom to dry hands. Prepped Food in the bain marie area stored open with no covering. Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the bain marie, is not being date marked. The food facility does not have a handwash sink located in the *food prep / warewashing area.

On June 18, 2025, Hawaii Kitchen, located at 510 Penn Ave, West Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Mops are not being hung to air dry. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.

On June 20, 2025, Willoughby’s on Park, located at 305 N Park Rd, Wyomissing, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Broken door hinge observed on the Avantco bain marie unit at the cooking line. The potato slicer and soda guns at the bar, food contact surfaces, were observed to have residue and were not clean to sight and touch. Corrected.

On June 20, 2025, Vintner’s Table, located at 945 Hill Ave Ste 100, Wyomissing, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate control of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing glass washer at the bar was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required. Corrected by replacing the sanitizer container. Observed numerous clean food containers with sticker residue on the back storage shelves. Food employees eating in the side dry storage area as evidenced by observed partially consumed food on the food storage shelves. Corrected. An open employee’s beverage container was observed at the cooking line. Corrected. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the back area. Corrected. Observed two containers of drink garnishes stored in the drink ice at the bar. Corrected. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the glasswashers. Facility also does not have a method to verify the final rinse temperature at the main hot water sanitizing dishwasher. This is a repeat violation. Three working containers (spray bottles) of cleaner / sanitizer were stored above and on the same shelf with food in the back preparation area. Corrected.

On June 20, 2025, Island Noodles, PA MFF, located at 25 Village Center Dr Unit B2, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view.

On June 20, 2025, Deli Station, located at 845 B Woodland Rd, Wyomissing, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: The labels on the bottles of root beer made in the owner’s licensed location in Lancaster County, Countryside Kitchen, are missing the address of the processing location.

On June 20, 2025, Clover Hill Meats, located at 845 B Woodland Rd, Wyomissing, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed a build-up of debris on the lower shelves in the front counter area and the wooden shelves in the back area. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Some food items in the front counter area are not stored 6 inches off of the floor as required.

On June 20, 2025, Bulgogi Korean BBQ & Thai, located at 4725 Perkiomen Ave, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed some food items stored directly on the floor in the dry storage area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the back area. Corrected. Two working containers (spray bottles) in front and back areas, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.

Mop not hung to air dry. Multiple hooks available. Multiple white plastic spatulas worn/frayed and should be replaced.

On June 24, 2025, R & A Deli Grocery, located at 252 N 9th St, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Thermometers for ensuring proper temperatures of food are not available or readily accessible. On June 24, 2025, Paulette Deli & Grocery, located at 352 N 9th St, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Clean bottom of deli cooler.
