Deeply scored cutting boards, build-up of food residue on non-food contact surfaces: Restaurant Inspections, Feb. 15, 2024

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On February 8, 2024, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture conducted an inspection at Raceway Kempton located at 2403 B Rte 143 in Kempton, PA. Two violations were noted during the inspection. First, the thermometer for ensuring proper temperature of equipment was not available or readily accessible in small reach in refrigerator holding pre packaged sandwiches. Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired and is no longer valid. Unisex restroom is not provided with a covered waste receptacle.

On February 9, 2024, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture conducted an inspection at Russo Foods and Market at 1150 Bern Rd in Wyomissing, PA. Three violations were identified during the inspection. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Observed the filter of the hood ventilation above the grill, in the pizza area, with an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, debris on non-food contact surfaces. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the dishwashing area. This was corrected.

On February 9, 2024, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture conducted an inspection at Exeter Fitness & Training located at 4270 Perkiomen Ave in Reading, PA. Two violations were noted during the inspection. Food dispensing utensil in bulk dry ingredients observed stored in the food and not with handle above the top of the food and the container. This was corrected. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.

On February 12, 2024, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture conducted an inspection at AMC Berkshire 8 located at 800 Berkshire Blvd in Wyomissing, PA. Three violations were identified during the inspection. Observed a build-up of food residue on the non-food contact surface of the milk shake maker. This was corrected. Observed a build-up of food residue on the non-food contact surface of the self-serve butter dispensers. This was corrected. Observed a build-up of food residue on the non-food contact surfaces of the soda machines. This was corrected.

Two other restaurants were inspected during this time period with no violations reported: Firehouse Coffee, 877 Kutztown RD Maxatawny, PA 19538 and the Kempton Hotel, 9910 Kistler Valley Road, Kempton, PA 19529.
