Exit door near walk-ins doesn’t protect against entry of pests: Restaurant Inspections, May 8, 2025

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On May 2, 2025, Mario’s Pizza, located at 159 S Reading Avenue, Boyertown, PA 19512, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired and is no longer valid.

On May 2, 2025, Antietam School District High School, located at 201 N 25th Street, Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found with the following violations: No sign or poster posted at the handwash sinks (4 sinks) to remind food employees to wash their hands. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the dishwasher area. Facility does not have a method to verify the final rinse temperature of the hot water sanitizing dishwasher. Exit door located near the walk-ins has a gap at the bottom and does not protect against the entry of pests. The handwash sink in the dishwasher area does not have single use towels or air drying device. Working containers (spray bottles) in the restroom and dishwasher areas, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.

On May 6, 2025, Singh Market, located at 928 N 13th Street, Reading, PA 19604, was inspected and found with the following violations: Mops are not being hung to air dry. Paper towels and liquid soap not provided in the restroom. Restroom needed to be more cleanly.

Several other restaurants were inspected during this time period with no violations reported: Whiskey Gil Saloon in Barto, Violet Vintage Wine Company in Shartlesville. Semper Pie West Reading, Russo’s Family Restaurant & Pizzeria in Hamburg, Mountaintop Bistro in Bethel, Mountain Springs Campground Store in Hamburg, Antietam SD Stony Creek Elementary, Antietam SD Kerry C. Hoffman Intermediate School, K’Town Pub Food Truck in Kutztown, Sodalish Sassy Sodas in Myerstown, The Wherehouse of Hamburg, The Nesting Box Mobile Unit in Kempton, Subway in Elverson, Lucky Leprechaun Winery in Hamburg, Beverage & Smoke in Kutztown, Topton Fire Station #21 in Mertztown.
