The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On November 12, 2024, The Wherehouse of Hamburg, located at 215 Pine St, Hamburg, PA 19526, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility does not have available quat sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate quat sanitizer concentration. Slicer, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected.
On November 12, 2024, Northwest Elementary School, located at 820 Clinton St, Reading, PA 19601, was inspected and found with the following violations: Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the cooler, is not being date marked. mop not being hung to dry, sitting in bucket.
On November 12, 2024, 13th & Union Elementary School, located at 1600 N 13th St, Reading, PA 19604, was inspected and found with the following violation: Expired milk being held in the cooler.
On November 13, 2024, Winnie Mochi, located at 400 Penn Ave, West Reading, PA 19611, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed a puddle of water under the drain line for the handwash sink in the kitchen. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the kitchen area. Corrected.
On November 13, 2024, Vida Cafe Brunch & Tacos, located at 351 N Centre Ave, Leesport, PA 19533, was inspected and found with the following violations: An open employee’s beverage container was observed on one of the bain marie units, a food preparation area. Corrected. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.
On November 13, 2024, Strickler’s Delicatessen Leesport Farmers Market, located at Leesport, PA 19533, was inspected and found with the following violation: Some lights are not shielded or shatter proof in the display cases.
On November 13, 2024, Northeast Middle School, located at 1201 N 12th St, Reading, PA 19604, was inspected and found with the following violation: Mops are not being hung to air dry.
On November 13, 2024, Jim Neidermyer Poultry, located at Leesport Farmers Market Bldg 2, Leesport, PA 19533, was inspected and found with the following violation: Floor near the fryer/hot hold case is deteriorated and is no longer a smooth, easily cleanable surface.
On November 14, 2024, Redner’s Warehouse Market #93, located at 5400 Perkiomen Ave, Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found with the following violation: Working containers (spray bottles) of cleaner / sanitizer were stored on an oven at a small prep table in the meat room. Corrected.
On November 14, 2024, Hocaa Bubble Tea, located at 1665 State Hill Rd Unit KS6, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: Thermometer for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in the white refrigerator.
On November 14, 2024, Ganly’s State Hill Pub, located at 500 Brownsville Rd, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violations: Scoop being stored in the drink ice at the small bar with the handle touching the ice. Corrected. Food facility does not have the correct type of sanitizer test strips for the sanitizer being used at the 3-compartment sink. The handwash sink in the new kitchen area does not have single use towels or air drying device. Corrected.
On November 15, 2024, San’s Sushi, Poke, Ramen, located at 1912 State Hill Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the 3-compartment sink.
On November 15, 2024, Kreyol Kitchen at Stonersville Hotel, located at 5701 Boyertown Pike, Birdsboro, PA 19508, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.
On November 18, 2024, Panera Bread #6072, located at 4229 N 5th Street, Temple, PA 19560, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed baked/unbaked products on bun pan rack stored next to handwashing sink where is it subject to splashes from handwashing. Corrected on inspection. Celling vents above The Bread and Butter employee station is source of dust; needs to be cleaned to prevent dust emission into the air.
On November 19, 2024, Laxmi’s Indian Grille, located at 1806 State Hill Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violations: The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate control of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Several foods in the kitchen refrigerators are stored open with no covering. Scoop being stored in the ice machine with handle touching the ice. A large container of chicken curry observed thawing at room temperature on a cart, which is not an approved thawing method. Observed packs of lamb thawing in standing water in a bucket in the kitchen, which is not an approved thawing method. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the dishwasher. Floor mats and wire shelving units in the kitchen area have an accumulation of dirt and old food debris. Observed single-service, single-use articles (take-out containers) stored in the front area directly on the floor, and not 6 inches above the floor. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – cold water is turned off at the handwash sink in the kitchen area due to a water leak. Exit door located in the kitchen area of the food facility has a significant hole at the bottom (deteriorated) and does not protect against the entry of pests. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the front area. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the kitchen area. The handwash sink in the front area does not have single use towels or air drying device. No sign or poster posted at the handwash sink in the front area to remind food employees to wash their hands. Mops are not being hung to air dry.
