Grease on exhaust hood filters, door gap does not protect against pests: Restaurant Inspections, Sept. 26, 2024

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On September 18, 2024, Trinity Bible Fellowship Church, located at 220 Main St, Blandon, PA 19510, was inspected and found with the following violations: Severely dented, distressed canned items observed in dry storage area and intended for use or sale in the food facility. Corrected. Food facility does not have available quat (blue tablet) sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.

On September 18, 2024, Josh’s Pizza Zone, located at 51 E 2nd St, Boyertown, PA 19512, was inspected and found with the following violations: Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the refrigerator and Bain Marie, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the refrigerator and Bain Maries, is not being date marked. Filters in the exhaust hood have observable grease like build up. Two of the filters are missing.

On September 19, 2024, Pagoda City Pizza and Subs, located at 3177 Morgantown Rd, Mohnton, PA 19540, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food in the Bain Marie was held at 46°F, in the kitchen area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Corrected by moving the food until repairs can take place. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed leaking at the faucet inlet at the kitchen handwashing sink. The handwash sink in the front service area does not have single use towels, continuous towels, or air-drying device. Corrected. No sign or poster posted at the handwash sink in the front service area to remind food employees to wash their hands. Working containers in the front service area, used for storing cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.

On September 19, 2024, Grand Central Tap Room, located at 45 Main St, Fleetwood, PA 19522, was inspected and found with the following violation: Souffle cup was observed in a container of spice on the cookline. Corrected.

On September 19, 2024, Camillo’s Italian Restaurant and Bar, located at 264 Greenwich, Kutztown, PA 19530, was inspected and found with the following violations: Several souffle cups observed stored in the spice containers. Corrected. Observed kettles of sauce stored directly on the floor in the walk-in cooler area, observed several items on the floor of the walk-in freezer rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the Walk-in cooler, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Non-food contact surfaces of shelves not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of encrusted debris in kitchen area. Cardboard observed on the floor below the fryers and needs to be removed. Ceiling in the dish area is painted and is roughened by peeling-chipped paint and is not a smooth, easily cleanable surface. Back door to the outside, located in the kitchen area of the food facility is not self-closing and/or is being propped open. Corrected. Working spray bottles containers in the kitchen area, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.

On September 20, 2024, Neversink Gun Club Inc, located at 4115 Painted Sky Rd, Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found with the following violation: Entrance door located in the front area of the facility has a gap and does not protect against the entry of pests.

On September 20, 2024, J & F Seafood, located at 2934 N 5th St, Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food employees observed not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets or hats.

On September 20, 2024, Csencsits Nuts, located at 2934 N 5th Street Hwy, Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violation: Stored bulk food container exteriors with “nut dust” present from assorted snack/nut items sold at the business.

On September 23, 2024, El Gallito Mexican Bakery, located at 626 N 9th St, Reading, PA 19604, was inspected and found with the following violation: Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the meat cooler also in the pastry’s cooler, is not being date marked.

Several other restaurants were inspected during this time period with no violations reported: Slicer’s Deli, Douglassville. Longacre’s Modern Dairy, Barto. Hidden River Brewing Company, Douglassville. Zion Farm BBQ, Mohnton. St. Catharine of Siena School, Reading. Rich Maiden Golf Course, Fleetwood. Oley Fire Company – Refreshment Building, Oley. Oley Fire Company – French Fry Building, Oley. Oley Fire Co. (Social Hall), Oley. Kutztown SD Elementary School, Kutztown. High Point Baptist Academy, Geigertown. Brandywine Heights Middle School, Topton.
