Multiple plates in clean dish area observed to have food residue: Restaurant Inspections, June 19, 2025

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On June 12, 2025, Kempton Community Center, located at Kempton Fair Stands, Kempton, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Facility was listed as out of compliance. Food facility is using an approved non-public water system, but does not have current laboratory testing results for water potability.

On June 12, 2025, Cielito Lindo Mexican Restaurant, located at 278 Main St, Kutztown, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Facility was listed as out of compliance. The Food Facility Operator shall be the Person in Charge or shall designate a Person in Charge and shall ensure that a Person in Charge is present at the food facility during all hours of operation. There was no designated person in charge during this inspection. Several raw animal foods were stored above ready to eat foods in the walk-in cooler. Corrected. Mops are not being hung to air dry. Corrected. Working containers in dish area, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected. Assorted foods were observed in a cold hold unit at the front counter held at 54°F, rather than 41°F or below as required. Corrected. Food is being rapidly chilled in walk-in cooler. Unit was not on the coldest setting. Facility turned it down and will recheck the unit in 2 hours and if temperature is below 40 degrees they can move food back to unit. If not service must be called. On June 13, 2025, Mita’s Corner, located at 10 Summit, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Multiple foods were held at 49°F, in the Bain Marie by the grill, rather than 41°F or below as required. Corrected. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Hood system has buildup of grease and is need of cleaning.

On June 13, 2025, Eve’s Thai Kitchen, located at 10 S Summit Ave, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the refrigerators, is not being date marked. Corrected.

On June 13, 2025, Crestwood Pool Snack Stand, located at 20 Hearthstone Ct, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Customer self-service single-use tableware is not displayed in a manner so that only the handles are touched by customers. Corrected.

On June 13, 2025, Christman’s Meat Market, located at 1157 Memorial Hwy, Oley, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration for the Steramine tablets.

On June 16, 2025, Starbucks Coffee #78305, located at 4541 Perkiomen Ave, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Paper towel dispensers empty at the handwash sinks in the front area. Corrected.

On June 16, 2025, Pagoda Motorcycle Club Concession Bar, located at 1945 Pagoda Ln, Birdsboro, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: There are gaps between the wall and equipment at the mop sink and the 3-compartment sink that could allow water to accumulate between the equipment and wall.

On June 16, 2025, Jukebox Cafe, located at 535 S Reading Ave, Boyertown, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the refrigerator near the cookline is not being date marked.

On June 16, 2025, Hollywood Casino Morgantown – Grab-and-Go/Tony Luke’s, located at 6021 Morgantown Road, Morgantown, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Can opener, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected. Observed a buildup of old food residue on the nonfood contact surface of the soda dispensing machine. Corrected. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the front service area. On June 16, 2025, Hollywood Casino Morgantown – Sportsbook, located at 6021 Morgantown Rd, Morgantown, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Observed a heavy buildup of grease and old food debris under the cookline. Multiple plates observed in clean dish area, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected.

On June 16, 2025, Hollywood Casino Morgantown – Bar 76, located at 6021 Morgantown Road, Morgantown, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Soap was not available at the handwash sink at the back left corner. Corrected.

On June 16, 2025, Domino’s 4749, located at 3801 Perkiomen Ave, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Floor in the 3-compartment sink area is cracked/damaged and is not a smooth, easily cleanable surface. Floor at the mop sink is damaged, creating a gap between the mop sink and the wall. Wall in the dry storage room has been repaired, but the drywall has not been finished to make it smooth, non-absorbent, easily cleanable. Roof is leaking water in the back area and is in need of repair. Observed water dripping from and ponding in the light fixture near the water heater. Lights near the front handwash sink are not shielded or shatter proof.

On June 16, 2025, China House, located at 825 Main St, Bally, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the walk-in-cooler and Bain Marie, is not being date marked. Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired and is no longer valid. Observed cardboard being used on shelves and equipment.

On June 17, 2025, Weis Markets #189, located at 2759 Paper Mill Rd, Wyomissing, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food employee observed in bakery area wearing bracelets and watch on arms. Food employee personal belongings (jacket, backpack) observed on a table in the bakery area. Corrected. Observed a 6-pack of bottles of baby formula offered for sale beyond the use-by date of 6/1/25. Corrected. There is a build-up of frost/ice around the door of the meat walk-in freezer. Facility has a repair order for this issue. Working container (spray bottle) in the deli area, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, was not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.

On June 17, 2025, Sly Fox at The Knitting Mills, located at 820 Knitting Mills Dr, Wyomissing, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Exit door located in the basement area of the food facility has a gap at the bottom and does not properly protect against the entry of pests.

On June 17, 2025, RJ Sweet Zee’s Ice Cream MFF3, located at 94 Hunter Rd, Oley, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed dried food debris on some surfaces of the milkshake mixer.

On June 17, 2025, Rite Aid #0447, located at 1205 W Ben Franklin Hwy, Douglassville, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed dead insects and an accumulation of dirt on the bottom shelf of the cold hold unit used for various beverages.

On June 17, 2025, Red Plate Diner, located at 440 E Penn Ave, Wernersville, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection. Refrigerated ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety foods prepared in the food facility and held for more than 24 hours, located in the walk-in cooler, are not being date marked. All food that will be held more than 24 hours needs to be dated. The food facility does not maintain Food Employee Certification records as required. Valid manager food safety certification is not available and posted as required. Food was held at 58 degrees F, in a refrigeration unit at the cookline, rather than 41 degrees F, or below as required. PIC was instructed to throw out the food due to not knowing how long the food was out of temperature. The cold prep refrigeration unit cannot be used until it is working with an ambient air temperature of 41 degrees F or below is maintained. This is a repeat violation and needs to be repaired. Raw ground beef was observed stored on a shelf above ready eat foods in the walk-in cooler. Corrected. Several food containers in the walk-in cooler area stored open with no covering. Observed single-service, single-use articles stored in the dry storage area in the basement directly on the floor, and not 6 inches above the floor. Two spray bottles, one in the dish area and one at the front counter area, used for storing chemicals and taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected. Observed cardboard being utilized as a floor covering in the walk-in cooler and the dry storage area if the basement and stairwell. Cardboard is a pest attractant/harborage area and should not be used as a floor covering. The handwash sink in the dish area was blocked by a gallon jug of Fabuloso and not accessible at all times for employee use. Corrected.

On June 17, 2025, 30 Restaurant, located at 956 Chestnut St, Reading, PA, was inspected and found with the following violations: Cooked food was held at 113 °F, in the steam table area, rather than 140°F or above as required. Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the bain marie, is not being date marked. Thermometers for ensuring proper temperatures of food are not available or readily accessible. No paper towels in the bathroom. Old food residue, dishes and utensils observed in the handwash sink, indicating uses other than handwashing. Soap was not available at the handwash sink. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink.

Several other restaurants were inspected during this time period with no violations reported: Uncle Paul’s Pretzels in Hamburg, Spot 787 Hotdog in Reading, Betty’s Wraps in Kutztown, Texas Road House in Spring Township, Stonersville Hotel in Birdsboro, Simple Delights by D.J. in Cumru Township, Circle Back Coffee in Kutztown, Antietam Valley Recreation Pool, Super Softee in Blandon, Reading Coffee Roaster in Birdsboro, Hollywood Casino Morgantown – The Snack Bar in Morgantown, Dyn-A-Mite Auctions in Fleetwood, Berkleigh Golf Club in Kutztown, Refreshhh in Reading, Redner’s Quick Shopee #28 in Bernville, L & P Smoke Shop in Reading, Joyful House in Douglassville, Emily’s Events and Venue in Mohnton, Clover Hill Vineyards & Winery in Robesonia, Bread Box in Douglassville, Bebe’s Kitchen in Birdsboro, Los Arrieros Restaurant in West Reading.
