The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On September 3, 2024, Spectators Bar & Grille, located at 45 Old Route 22, Kutztown, PA 19530, was inspected and found with the following violation: Souffle cups observed in containers of spices and sugar. Corrected.
On September 4, 2024, Tipsy Times, located at 2295 E Main St, Douglassville, PA 19518, was inspected and found with the following violations: Foods are served raw or undercooked to the customer’s request; however, a written consumer advisory (on the menu, table tent, or placard) is not provided to the consumer. Food Employee is not using available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine sanitizer concentration. The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed leaking at the 3-bay sink for the outdoor bar and the mechanical dishwasher in the kitchen. Working containers in bar area, used for storing cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.
On September 4, 2024, Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen, located at 900 Crossings Blvd, Elverson, PA 19520, was inspected and found with the following violations: Sanitizer solutions for wiping cloths in the chicken breading area and by the ice machine at a concentration of less than 50ppm. Corrected. Mops are not being hung to air dry. Corrected.
On September 4, 2024, Crab Crazy, located at 5614 Allentown Pike, Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.
On September 4, 2024, China III, located at 319 N Furnace St, Birdsboro, PA 19508, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed several containers of food stored directly on the floor in the walk-in cooler, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Mops are not being hung to air dry.
On September 4, 2024, Buy Rite Beer – Tobacco – Vape, located at 110 Moreview Blvd Unit 2, Morgantown, PA 19543, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.
On September 5, 2024, Legacy Cigar Lounge, located at 525 Penn Ave, West Reading, PA 19611, was inspected and found with the following violations: Thermometer for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in the refrigeration unit at the bar. Corrected. Food facility does not have available method for verifying the final rinse temperature at the hot water sanitizing dishwasher. Working container (spray bottle) in the bar area, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, was not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected. An open can of butane was stored with the glasses at the bar. Corrected.
On September 5, 2024, Golden Oaks Golf Club, located at 10 Stonehedge Dr, Fleetwood, PA 19522, was inspected and found with the following violation: Chicken wings in the walk-in freezer area stored open with no covering, with ice crystal above on the ceiling. Corrected.
On September 5, 2024, Fortune Cafe, located at 1177 Berkshire Blvd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed dirty cardboard lining some shelves in the back kitchen area. This is not a cleanable surface/material. The handwash sinks in the kitchen area were blocked by dishes and were not accessible at all times for employee use. Corrected.
On September 5, 2024, Brooklyn Place, located at 1140 Rockland St, Reading, PA 19604, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food in the freezer area stored open with no covering. Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the cooler, is not being date marked. Dishes and utensils observed in the handwash sink, indicating uses other than handwashing. No sign or poster posted at the handwash sink in the food prep area to remind food employees to wash their hands. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the food prep area. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the food prep area.
On September 6, 2024, Ray’s #1 Pizza, located at 841 Washington St, Reading, PA 19601, was inspected and found with the following violations: Commercially processed ready to eat food, located in the bain marie, and held more than 48 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the prep area. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the prep area.
On September 6, 2024, Ice Cream Five Brothers, located at 111 N 9th St, Reading, PA 19601, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility does not have a three-compartment sink for manual warewashing. Employees must wash hands sign not inside restroom. Paper towel dispenser was not available in restrooms. No sign or poster posted at the handwash sink in the prep area to remind food employees to wash their hands. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the prep area. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the prep area.
On September 6, 2024, Fela Grocery, located at 112 N 9th St, Reading, PA 19601, was inspected and found with the following violations: Items observed in the handwashing sink indicating it was not used for hand washing. Hand soap and paper towel dispenser was not available in restroom. Cleaning of the inside of cooler area needs to be completed.
On September 6, 2024, Boyers Food Market #3568, located at 410 N 3rd St, Womelsdorf, PA 19567, was inspected and found with the following violations: Non-food contact surface of spray nozzle at deli sink not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Corrected. Deli sink has a hose attachment that is hanging below the flood rim of the sink and not an appropriate air gap. The handwash sink in the deli area was blocked by cart and not accessible at all times for employee use. Corrected. Ceiling tiles missing and damaged in the backroom area, and need replaced. Sanitizer and dish detergent system not labeled with chemical name on the dispenser. Corrected.
On September 6, 2024, Berkshire Family Restaurant, located at 1714 State Hill Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violation: Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – urinal in the men’s room is not operating properly. A plumber was called this morning and will be stopping to make repairs. Urinal has been taken out of service until repairs are completed.
On September 9, 2024, The Angry Pear, located at 144 Thomas Dr, Wernersville, PA 19565, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not have the correct sanitizer test strips. Facility is using a quaternary ammonia-based product but has test strips for chlorine.
On September 9, 2024, New Great China, located at 2675 Shillington Rd, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed in-use knives and /or cleavers stored between table edges, an area not easily cleaned & sanitized. Corrected. Thermometer for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in the bain marie unit. Corrected. Screen door located in the rear kitchen area of the food facility has a gap and does not protect against the entry of pests. Ceiling tiles missing in the back kitchen area need to be replaced. Working containers (spray bottles) in dishwashing area, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.

Observed chicken wings cooling at room temperature on the shelf by the pizza oven, which is not a proper cooling method. Corrected. Ceiling vent closest to walk-in cooler is extremely dusty, and in need of cleaning. Spray bottle with bleach water is observed not labeled. Corrected.

On September 9, 2024, China Wok, located at 3401 North 5th St, Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violation: Observed soil/grease build-up in between pieces of equipment.
On September 9, 2024, Chapel Hill Golf Course, located at 2023 Old Lancaster Pike, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the 3-compartment sinks. Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired (8/29/2024) and is no longer valid. Facility is in the process of renewing the certification.
On September 10, 2024, Turkey Hill Minit Market #292, located at 2432 Morgantown Rd, Reading, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violation: The food facility does not have the original certificate for the certified food employee posted in public view.
