The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On March 26, 2025, Quisqueya Grocery, located at 130 W Windsor St, Reading, PA 19601, was inspected and found with the following violations: Outdated milk for sale in the cooler.
On March 26, 2025, Fleetwood Pizza, located at 34 W Main St, Fleetwood, PA 19522, was inspected and found with the following violations: Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food (deli meat), located in the walk-in cooler, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Food contact surfaces, dough mixer and slicer, observed to have food residue and not clean to sight and touch.
On March 26, 2025, Fiore’s Chill-N-Grill Cafe, located at 833 Park Rd, Blandon, PA 19510, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired and is no longer valid. Certificate expired 2/11/2025.
On March 26, 2025, Evergreen Club, located at 415 Hartz Rd, Fleetwood, PA 19522, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility is reusing paper souffle cups as utensil, which is intended to be a single-service or single-use article.
On March 26, 2025, Backwoods Brothers Authentic Texas Cuisine, located at 272 S 4th St, Hamburg, PA 19526, was inspected and found with the following violations: Hamburger foods are served raw or undercooked to the customer’s request; however, a written consumer advisory (on the menu, table tent, or placard) is not provided to the consumer. Can opener blade, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected. Observed shelving equipment and floor, in the walk-in cooler area, with an accumulation of food residue, and debris on non-food contact surfaces.
On March 27, 2025, Wong’s Kitchen LLC, located at 835-5 Hiester Ln, Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violations: Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the bain marie, is not being date marked. emperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available or readily accessible in cooler equipment.
On March 27, 2025, Velador LLC Sport Bar & Pizza, located at 549 N 10th St, Reading, PA 19604, was inspected and found with the following violations: Commercially processed ready to eat food, located in the freezer, and held more than 48 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the cooler, is not being date marked. Thermometers for ensuring proper temperatures of food are not available or readily accessible. The handwash sink in the food prep area being used as a food preparation sink as evidenced by observed * food in the sink.
On March 27, 2025, Travelers Pub, located at 1701 Cotton St, Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found with the following violations: Thermometer in cooler behind bar was not available.
On March 27, 2025, That Burger Place, located at 10 S Summit Ave, Reading, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violations: Raw animal foods were stored above ready to eat foods in the refrigerator by the grill. Corrected. Observed the hood system to have a buildup of grease and the spray wand on the 3-bay sink to have a buildup of old food residue. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed leaking at the wand and the hot water valve of the 3-bay sink.
On March 27, 2025, Sweet Street Cafe, located at 722 Hiester Ln, Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violations: Potentially hazardous ready-to-eat food prepared in the food facility and held for more than 48 hours, located in the cooler, is not being date marked.
On March 27, 2025, Royal Farms #402, located at 1340 Ben Franklin Hwy, Douglassville, PA 19518, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed soda machine nozzles, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Observed the shelving and floors to have a buildup of old food residue. Observed single use items stored on the prep table not inverted. Corrected.
On March 27, 2025, On The Bun, located at 360G E Wyomissing Ave, Mohnton, PA 19540, was inspected and found with the following violations: Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed leaking at the base of the faucet in the restroom. Bottom half of wall in the ware washing area, is made of bare dry wall, and is not durable, smooth, non-porous, non-absorbent. The floor / wall juncture in the ware washing area is not coved and closed to 1/32 inch.
On March 27, 2025, Max Butcher Shop, located at 835-3 Hiester Ln, Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violations: Cross contamination of meats. Employee observed preparing meat without wearing gloves. Old food residue, dishes and utensils observed in the handwash sink, indicating uses other than handwashing.
On March 28, 2025, Exeter Sunoco Food Mart, located at 3153 Perkiomen Ave, Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found with the following violations: There is an accumulation of dirt/debris on the floor in the unused walk-in freezer.
On March 28, 2025, Blue Mountain Family Restaurant, located at 24 Roadside Dr, Shartlesville, PA 19554, was inspected and found with the following violations: The handwash sink located in the prep area does not have water at a temperature of at least 85°F. Walls in the ware washing machine area has plastic hanging up and is not an easily cleanable material. Observed cardboard being utilized as a floor covering. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the prep area. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the prep area.
On March 29, 2025, K & L Dairy, located at 2934 N 5th Street Hwy, Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed wet wiping cloths in prep area, not being stored in sanitizer solution. Corrected on inspection.
On March 29, 2025, Johnny & Hons, located at 2546 Kutztown Rd, Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed dusty ceiling vent above food prep table.
On March 31, 2025, Wendy’s #19305, located at 4820 Penn Ave, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food items observed being held above 41°F in the prep line cold-holding unit. Accumulation of grease and residue observed on hood filters and cooking equipment on the cooking line. Food facility does not have available QAC sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. The following food contact surfaces observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch: -frozen dessert machine -soda dispensing machine. Accumulation of grease and residue observed on floors, behind and under equipment on the cooking line.
On March 31, 2025, Wawa Food Market #8010, located at 2005 Museum Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violations: There is an accumulation of dust/dirt on the wall-mounted fan in the back food preparation area. Plumbing system not maintained in good repair – observed water/coffee leaking from the drain line at the sink in the coffee preparation area. There is an accumulation of liquid debris on the floor under this sink due to the leak.
On March 31, 2025, Sheetz #603, located at 8555 Lancaster Ave, Bethel, PA 19507, was inspected and found with the following violations: Drain below milkshake For Real machine and soda machine observed with excessive debris and slime build up and in need of cleaning. Corrected. Mops are not being hung to air dry. Corrected.
On March 31, 2025, Pizza Como, located at 501 State St, Hamburg, PA 19526, was inspected and found with the following violations: Chlorine chemical sanitizer residual detected in the final sanitizer rinse cycle of the low temperature sanitizing dishwasher was 0 ppm, and not 50-100 ppm as required. Sanitizer container was empty, and employee changed it out. Corrected. Three spray bottles in front counter/ dish area, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.
On March 31, 2025, Masa Hibachi & Sushi, located at 2733 Papermill Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed an accumulation of grease and food debris on the floor under the fryers and on the shelf above the grill. The handwash sinks in the bar and sushi bar areas were providing alternating warm/cold water during this inspection. The handwash sinks in other areas were providing constant hot water. Owner called the plumber during this inspection. Food facility inspection indicates evidence of insect activity in the back area. Facility is continuing with their pest control program.
On March 31, 2025, Jersey Mike’s Subs, located at 2733 Papermill Rd, Ste X10, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed an accumulation of dirt and old food debris on the floor under shelving units in the walk-in cooler. The handwash sink in the back area was blocked by a large plastic bin and was not accessible at all times for employee use. Corrected. -Door to the outside, located in the back area of the food facility, is not screened and is being propped open. Corrected.
On March 31, 2025, Deluxe Restaurant, located at 2295 Lancaster Pike, Shillington, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violations: Multiple foods were held at 50°F, in the refrigerator used for butter and dressings and in the beverage refrigerator used by servers by the salad, rather than 41°F or below as required. Corrected. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Facility using wood cutting board at the Bain Marie on the cookline that is deeply scored and needs to be replaced. Hand wash station on the cook line needs guards on the side to prevent contamination of food.
On March 31, 2025, Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, located at 2733 Papermill Rd, Suite 208, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violations: Scoops and cups at the bar are being stored in dirty containers. Corrected. Observed a build-up of dried debris on the floor behind the large mixer in the back area. Hot water pressure is poor at the handwash sink behind the bar.
On April 1, 2025, Ray’s #1 Pizza, located at 1665 State Hill Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration.
On April 1, 2025, Mission BBQ Wyomissing, located at 1775 Papermill Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violations: The floor surface of the mop sink is damaged and is no longer a smooth, easily cleanable surface. Working containers (spray bottles) of cleaner / sanitizer were stored above and on the same shelf with single service articles in the front counter area. Corrected.
On April 1, 2025, Little Italia Pizzeria, located at 1665 State Hill Rd, Wyomissing, PA 19610, was inspected and found with the following violations: The blue ice bucket is cracked and is not in good repair. Observed dirt/debris on the floor around the mixer, ice machine, and under the 3-compartment sink.
On April 1, 2025, Hissho Sushi at Giant #6050, located at 2641 Shillington Rd, Reading, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food Employee observed changing tasks that may have contaminated hands without a proper handwash in-between. Manual warewashing equipment (3-bay sink) area observed with build-up of residue and not being cleaned frequently.
On April 1, 2025, Giant Food #6050, located at 2641 Shillington Rd, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed food and debris along walk-in cooler floors.
On April 2, 2025, Spoonful Thai Bistro, located at 615 Penn Ave, West Reading, PA 19611, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. There is a build-up of frost on the condenser unit in the 2-door refrigerator. Plastic forks are not displayed in a manner so that only the handles are touched when dispensed. Corrected. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the front area. Corrected.
