The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has posted an updated list of recent Retail Food Inspection Reports for restaurants and food handlers in Berks County. Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. On January 2, 2025, Womelsdorf Rod & Gun Club, located at 217 W Franklin St, Womelsdorf, PA 19567, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not employ a certified food employee as required.
On January 2, 2025, Stampede Smokin BBQ, located at 4372 Morgantown Rd, Mohnton, PA 19540, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed food stored directly on the floor in the walk-in cooler, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Multiple food items are held at 50°F, in the Migali reach in refrigerator in the prep area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Observed two deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Toilet room is not provided with a covered waste receptacle for sanitary napkins.
On January 2, 2025, Scott’s, located at 1257 Montgomery Ave, New Berlinville, PA 19545, was inspected and found with the following violations. The facility was listed as out of compliance: Observed ingredients being stored in containers that are not marked with the ingredient inside the container. Observed scoops being stored in ingredient containers. Commercially processed refrigerated, ready to eat, time/temperature control for safety food, located in the walk-in-cooler, refrigerator, and Bain Maries, and held more than 24 hours, is not being marked with the date it was opened. Observed deeply scored cutting boards not resurfaced or discarded as required. Observed cardboard being utilized as a floor covering. Lights are not shielded or shatter proof throughout the facility. Toilet rooms do not have a self-closing door. No sign or poster posted at the handwash sink in the cookline area to remind food employees to wash their hands. Observed grease like build up on the floor under the grill and fryer.
On January 2, 2025, Sandstone Acres, located at 67 Bowmansville Rd, Mohnton, PA 19540, was inspected and found with the following violation: Food facility does not employ a certified food employee as required.
On January 2, 2025, New Hamburg Diner, located at 212 State St, Hamburg, PA 19526, was inspected and found with the following violations: Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available in the cold hold unit on the cook line and the refrigerator in the dining area. Corrected. The handwash sink in the dish area does not have single use towels, continuous towels, or air-drying device. Corrected. Spray bottle in the cook line area used for storing chemicals and taken from bulk supplies was not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.
On January 2, 2025, Lagatta Bakery, located at 5 S 4th St, Hamburg, PA 19526, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration. Paper towel dispenser empty at the handwash sink in the kitchen and bathroom area.
On January 2, 2025, Kentucky Fried Chicken #052, located at 2245 Lancaster Pike, Shillington, PA 19607, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed food stored directly on the floor in walk-in freezer area, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Corrected. Observed a buildup of old food residue in on the nonfood contact surfaces of the soda dispensers. Corrected. Observed clean food equipment and/or utensils in the warewashing area, stored wet in a manner that does not allow for draining and/or air drying (wet nesting). Corrected. Food facility does not employ a certified food employee as required.
On January 2, 2025, CJ Hummel’s Restaurant & Bar, located at 28 Willow St, Lenhartsville, PA 19534, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food contact surface of a fryer basket is observed with broken wires and is not smooth, easily cleanable and/or resistant to pitting, cracking or scratching. Interior kick plate on ice machine in the back of house was observed with pink organic matter. Food facility has an employee who held a Certified Food Manager certificate; however, the certificate has expired on 02/13/2024 and is no longer valid.
On January 2, 2025, Birdsboro Sunoco, located at 235 Furnace St, Birdsboro, PA 19508, was inspected and found with the following violation: No sign or poster posted at the handwash sink in the front area to remind food employees to wash their hands.
On January 2, 2025, Annamarie’s on Main, located at 339 W Main St, Birdsboro, PA 19508, was inspected and found with the following violations: The ice chute at the ice machine, a food contact surface, was observed to have residue and was not clean to sight and touch. Corrected. Observed an accumulation of dirt/debris on the floor near the walls and under shelving in the dishwashing area. Hot water handle is broken at the handwash sink in the kitchen area. Owner stated that it will be repaired this afternoon.
On January 3, 2025, Salvatore’s, located at 200 Revere Blvd, West Lawn, PA 19609, was inspected and found with the following violations: Food dispensing utensil in spices in the dry storage area were observed stored in the food and not with handle above the top of the food and the container. Corrected. Soap was not available at the handwash sink in the front counter area.
On January 3, 2025, Friendly Stops 2 Sunoco, located at 159 Penn Ave, Robesonia, PA 19551, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed several cases of food stored directly on the floor in the walk-in freezer, rather than 6 inches off of the floor as required. Corrected. Food facility does not have available sanitizer test strips to determine appropriate sanitizer concentration at the 3-compartment sink. Floor by the back door area is missing tiles / roughened / and is not a smooth, easily cleanable surface.
On January 3, 2025, Dunkin Donuts #356111, located at 5546 Pottsville Pike, Leesport, PA 19533, was inspected and found with the following violations: Interior wall along the right side of the back door is damaged and is in need of repair. A working container (spray bottle) of cleaner / sanitizer was stored on the same shelf with drink cups in the front area. Corrected.
On January 3, 2025, Community Fire Co of Fritztown – Social Qtrs, located at 1060 Fritztown Rd, Sinking Spring, PA 19608, was inspected and found with the following violations: Interior of ice machine at the bar was observed to have black and pink organic build up and was not clean to sight and touch. Working containers in dish area, used for storing chemicals, cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.
On January 7, 2025, Rite Aid #11172, located at 4630 Perkiomen Ave, Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found with the following violation: Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Observed a buildup of dirt/dust on the shelf under the bagged ice and in the grate of the iced tea section of coolers.
On January 7, 2025, Philly Pretzel Factory (in Walmart #1777), located at 5900 Perkimon Ave, Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found with the following violations: Multiple food ingredient storage containers, in the front service area, is not labeled with the common name of the food. Corrected. Non-food contact surfaces not cleaned at a frequency to preclude accumulation of dirt and soil. Observed a buildup of dirt and old food residue under the prep table next to the office. On January 7, 2025, McDonald’s #1072, located at 2730 Perkiomen Ave, Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found with the following violations: Ice bin left open in the drive thru area. Observed brown powder substance on the ice. Corrected. Observed a buildup of old food residue on the non-food contact surfaces of the milkshake machine. Corrected.
On January 7, 2025, Grumpy’s Bar, located at 1501 Elizabeth Ave, Reading, PA 19605, was inspected and found with the following violation: No sign or poster posted at the handwash sink in the men’s and women’s restroom area to remind food employees to wash their hands.
On January 7, 2025, Exeter Fitness & Training, located at 4270 Perkiomen Ave, Reading, PA 19606, was inspected and found with the following violations: Almond milk and juices held at 48°F, in the refrigerator at smoothie area, rather than 41°F or below as required. Food facility does not employ a certified food employee as required. Observed apparent rodent droppings in the dry storage room under the protein powder shelf.
On January 7, 2025, Domino’s Pizza, located at 15100 Kutztown Rd Ste 4, Kutztown, PA 19530, was inspected and found with the following violations: Observed clean food equipment and/or utensils in clean dish storage area, stored wet in a manner that does not allow for draining and/or air drying (wet nesting). The food facility does not maintain Food Employee Certification records as required. Mops are not being hung to air dry. Corrected. Working container in the dish area, used for storing chemicals and/or cleaners taken from bulk supplies, were not marked with the common name of the chemical. Corrected.
