Restoring Hope of Berks County selects Barrett Family with gift of home renovation

Restoring Hope of Berks County has selected Bob and Leah Barrett of Cumru Township to receive the gift of a home renovation through their annual build project.

In October 2022, Leah was involved in a motor vehicle accident when a tractor-trailer made a lane change, forcing her vehicle off the road and into a pole head-on. The pole then snapped and fell on top of the vehicle.

As a result of the car accident, Leah had injuries to her spine and right shoulder. She had to undergo two multi-level back surgeries and a long stay in rehab, but was left unable to walk and is wheelchair-bound due to paralysis in her right leg and spinal cord injury. Leah has also had to undergo right shoulder reconstruction surgery.

The Barrett Family is the 13th recipient of this gift, in which local businesses and individuals will partner together from September 4-14, 2024, to renovate the Barrett Family home to make it more accessible.
