Santa stops by Children’s Home of Reading to kickoff annual gift drive

Led by a team of motorcycle riders, Santa stopped by the The Children’s Home of Reading Sunday to check and see whose been naughty or nice.

“The Holiday Toy Run kicks off the beginning of our Gift Drive for the over 2200 children we serve, and having Santa take time to check in with the children is extra special”, said Jill Troutman, VP of Advancement. “Who knew the riders had a direct link to the big man in the North Pole?”

About 100 residents and staff enjoyed mingling with the riders who helped collect new toys and gift cards for the children.

“This event is written into the fabric of the CHOR history and is looked forward to each year”, Troutman said, “The generosity of the riders is overwhelming, and a wonderful way for us to kick off the Holiday Gift Drive.”

Hot refreshments in the rear of the Centre Ave building were served for about an hour while the kids had a chance to talk, see motorcycles up close and practicing their social skills with people they have just met.

Last year over $3,000 was collected and used to purchase gift cards and toys for the kids throughout CHOR programs.
