The Junior League of Reading, PA, Inc., in partnership with Reading Hospital and Co-County Wellness, hosted the second annual Let’s Talk, Period event on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the Reading Hospital School of Life Sciences Building.
Building on the success of last year’s event, approximately 125 children and adults attended the discussion, which focused on puberty and menstrual health. The hour-long panel featured medical professionals who provided accurate, judgment-free information in an effort to break down stigmas and empower attendees.
The panelists included Dr. Olubunmi Ojikutu, M.D., Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Tower Health; Dr. Laila Muallem, M.D., a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist; and Dr. Karen Wang, M.D., chief medical officer at Berks Community Health Center.
Designed for children who are approaching or already experiencing their menstrual cycle, along with a trusted adult or chaperone, the event aimed to build self-confidence and provide practical knowledge about puberty. Attendees had the opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer session following the discussion.
At the conclusion of the event, free goody bags were distributed, containing menstrual products, informational materials, and personal care items.
The Let’s Talk, Period event continues to be a valuable resource for the community, offering a space for open conversations and education about menstrual health in a supportive environment.
