The YMCA of Reading & Berks County will celebrate the grand opening of its expanded tennis and pickleball facilities during a Racquet Sports Open House on Friday, October 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sinking Spring YMCA, 4920 Penn Avenue.
The event will give community members an opportunity to explore the updated indoor court space, meet the racquet sports team and learn about available programs, including lessons, clinics, leagues, open play, tournaments and other events. Exclusive discounts will also be offered during the open house.
The expanded facility features four tennis courts and 10 pickleball courts across dedicated and dual-purpose court space, providing additional opportunities for year-round recreation, instruction and competitive play.
“This expansion gives us more room to welcome new players and support the people who already make racquet sports part of their lives,” said Jesse Whiteman, branch executive director of the Sinking Spring YMCA. “We invite our neighbors to come see the courts, meet our team and discover how much fun it can be to stay active and connected at the Y.”
The improvements were supported by a capital grant from YMCA of the USA announced last winter to expand pickleball opportunities and renovate the Sinking Spring YMCA’s racquet sports wing.
According to the YMCA, the project was developed in response to growing community demand for court availability and programming, with an emphasis on increasing access for both new and returning players.
The facility offers tennis lessons and clinics designed to help participants develop their skills, along with pickleball programs ranging from introductory instruction to competitive leagues and tournaments.
The October 23 open house is intended for players of all ages and experience levels, including those interested in trying tennis or pickleball for the first time.
