The community of Womelsdorf is set to celebrate the dedication of a new all-abilities splash pad at Womelsdorf Swimming Pool in honor of Davy Craft, a courageous 12-year-old boy born with Baraitser-Winter syndrome, a condition diagnosed in only 50 people in the world. The dedication ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 11, 2024, from 4:00PM to 7:00PM, with a rain date scheduled for July 13, 2024.
Despite facing challenges including brain abnormalities, seizures, and developmental disorders, Davy continues to inspire those around him with his bright spirit and resilience. His story has touched the hearts of many, motivating individuals, businesses, county commissioners, and organizations like IM ABLE Foundation and Make-A-Wish to contribute to the creation of this special splash pad.
A brief program will commence at 4:30PM, featuring remarks from community leaders and Davy’s family members. The event is free and open to the public, and no RSVP is required for attendance.
The initiative to build the all-abilities splash pad began when a family member reached out to the IM ABLE Foundation, which provided essential resources and support to make the project a reality. Over the course of two years, more than 300 generous donors came together to make contributions, demonstrating the community’s unwavering support for inclusive recreational opportunities.
“We are so excited to dedicate this splash pad to the community as a place for everyone to enjoy.” said Amanda Craft, Davy’s mother. “Thanks to the incredible support from our community and organizations like the IM ABLE Foundation and Make-A-Wish, Davy will be splashing with friends for years to come!”
The splash pad is designed to accommodate people of all ages and of all abilities, providing a safe and enjoyable environment where families can create lasting memories together. Its opening represents a significant milestone for inclusivity in Womelsdorf, offering accessible recreational opportunities for children like Davy and their families.
