The Reading Royals announced Monday that Jason Binkley has been relieved of his duties as the team’s head coach and general manager. The organization, an ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, said the search for Binkley’s replacement will begin immediately.
Binkley, a native of Powell, Ohio, originally joined the Royals in 2022 as an assistant coach under then-head coach James Henry. He was promoted to interim head coach on January 29, 2024, and officially named the franchise’s ninth head coach on May 17, 2024.
During his time at the helm, Binkley guided the team to a regular season record of 46 wins, 44 losses, and 15 overtime losses. That total includes a 13-16-3 record during his stint as interim coach in the 2023-24 season. The Royals reached the playoffs under his leadership in his only full season in charge.
The team did not release additional details regarding the decision or a timeline for naming a successor.
