Things are heating up in the local ABA basketball scene. A new rivalry is building between the Reading Wizards and Pottstown Flames. We spoke with Kashif Reyes, owner of the Reading Wizards and Stephen Bergman Sr., owner of the Pottstown Flames before they faced off Sunday night in Reading.
With the Wizards in their third season and the Flames in their second, both teams are eager to prove themselves on the court. With talented players games are full of fast paced action. “The ABA is a fast professional basketball league, so we’re excited to be here. Hopeful in a few years we’ll be bigger, and grow our fan base” said Reyes.
Both owners are not only interested in creating a fun atmosphere for fans, but also providing a place for the players to grow and work on their skills. “It gives the kids something to look forward to, in the case they can’t make it to a college level” said Bergman. Players in the league have played overseas and some scouted for the NBA.
The Reading Wizards play at the Reading Recreation’s 3rd and Spruce Recreation Center readingwizards.org, and the Pottstown Flames play at the Coventry Christian School pottstownflames.com. Visit their website for the complete team schedule.
