Stonecliffe Recreation Area in Reading will remain closed to the public through at least the end of June as the City of Reading continues sewer infrastructure improvements throughout the park.
The construction project, which began in December 2024, has shut down all amenities at the site, including the skate action park, rental facilities, fishing dock, pavilion, ball courts, soccer fields, and picnic areas. Additionally, the section of the Union Canal Trail that runs through the recreation area is closed to all pedestrian and bicycle traffic, with no through access permitted during the construction period.
Notices have been posted around the park’s perimeter and interior to inform the public of the closure. According to officials, trespassing during this time may result in citations and possible fines.
“We look forward to reopening the Stonecliffe Recreation Area to the public once the infrastructure improvements are completed,” the County said in a statement.
In the meantime, other nearby parks within the Tulpehocken Creek Valley Park System remain open, including Berks Leisure Area, Grings Mill, and Red Bridge Recreation Areas. All are located just a few miles upstream from Stonecliffe and are managed by the Berks County Parks & Recreation Department.
